1.0 out of 5 stars Watch out!! I thought I was buying a clothes washer., November 30, 2010
This review is from: Whirlpool : WFW9550WW 4.4 cu. ft. Front Load Steam Washer - White
November 2010. New machine. I really expected the Whirpool Duet Steam washer to wash my clothes like never before. What I found was that it does not put in enough water to clean the clothes. No matter what cycle is being used the water that shows in the tub is about 1 cup. Now how can one cup of water clean a load of clothes? The water level pressure switch should be programed to allow about 1 - 1 1/2 gallons more water to enter the tub so the clothes at least have something to slosh around in. Whirpool sent a repairman to change the water valves and pressure switch but to no avail. What kind of engineer thinks this way. Now I have to manually carry pots of water to add the proper amount of water to clean the clothes. Major problem here. WHITER WHITES cycle! How about GRAYER GRAYS!

1.0 out of 5 stars Laughed when I heard the maintenance cost, August 18, 2011
This review is from: Whirlpool : WFW9550WW 4.4 cu. ft. Front Load Steam Washer - White
I have had my washer for less than 3 years. The warning "F25" kept popping up. I called for a service technician. He took one look at me and said, "I hope you have extended warranty, because I am afraid to tell you the cost to fix this. It is ridiculous and you should NOT pay it." He whipped up an invoice for me that stated it would cost $1400 for parts to replace the drum that had broken off the bearing. The labor itself: $200. I only paid ~$1000 for this washer in the first place!

Called Whirlpool. They said I could buy extended warranty for $130 and apply it retroactively. This would allow me to get my washer fixed....wait for it...THREE months from now. Has anyone lived without washing their clothes for 3 months? Anyone? I think I will buy a different brand, ASAP!

1.0 out of 5 stars High Maintenance Costs AVOID, August 29, 2010

Particularly avoid those with steam.
Don't believe me, search F35 SUD duet.
Analog pressure switch fails under normal usage quickly, but apparently many times after warranty up in 12 months.
Stick with tried and true, avoid Whirlpool front loaders, or pay up for warranty that lasts your ownership cycle.
Also, be prepared to be without a washer.
Clearly a prevalent problem and design flaw, but Whirlpool refuses to acknowledge with a free replacement.

After one month the analog pressue switch failed (error F35). After one year, it failed again. This washer has a flaw and should be recalled.

1.0 out of 5 stars Warning. The initial purchase price isn't likely all you will pay, August 31, 2009
All I can say about Whirlpool's "technology marvels" is beware of the repair cost on these electronically controlled machines. I bought the top end front loader less than 3 years ago. It recently went on the blink requiring a service call. The diagnosis? The computer controller was burnt requiring a $300 repair. One month later a front panel board also burnt requiring another $300 repair. So in less than 3 years I have spent $600 to repair a $1000 machine. When you consider a purchase consider adding the "overly expensive" extended warranty, or better yet, just buy a basic "no frills" washer. Whirlpools technology leaves much to be desired and as we know, the shorter the life span, the more units they will sell. Never again Whirlpool! BTW, the repairman mentoned that most of his calls are for the newer type machines.

1.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY! Needs a CLASS ACTION recall!, August 24, 2011
This review is from: Whirlpool : WFW9550WW 4.4 cu. ft. Front Load Steam Washer - White
I've had this washer for less than ten months. Upon installation I was dismayed at how loud it is. Over the course of time it got louder and louder, it sounded like a plane trying to take off out of my laundry room. I finally called repair because obviously it isn't supposed to be like this. The repair man came out and said the inner and outer drum was broken. I asked how something like this could happen and he just shrugged his shoulders. I then waited to hear when I was 1) going to get this fixed or 2) (like the repairman said would most likely happen) I would get a replacement machine. I was already thinking the machine wasn't made to well by this point, I mean I use my washer several times a week, why the heck should it break down with normal use. I got a big surprise today when I called the repair company (no one called me like they said they would) they said I broke the drum and it voided the warranty! I was incredulous! How, I asked, to you come to that conclusion? She told me the repair man said I must have overloaded the machine which caused the drum to break! Again, incredulous! In the manual it specifically says NOT to overload or your clothes won't get clean! I HAVE NEVER OVERLOADED THIS PIECE OF JUNK MACHINE! NEVER! I am the "queen" of tiny loads of laundry, even towels, because I want them to be clean! The biggest load I ever washed was one set of kind sheets, but a machine has to be able to handle one measly king size bed sheet set! This is obviously a manufacturing defect that they are trying to shaft the consumer with! BEWARE DO NOT BUY THIS MACHINE! I plan on calling Maytag in the morning and also Lowe's where we bought this set of junk. I hope I get resolution, $800 for a piece of landfill junk! This should be criminal polluting our environment with junk large scale appliances! I don't even think it deserves one star.

1.0 out of 5 stars Extremely disappointing. Don't buy, April 25, 2012

I bought my machine 2 1/2 years ago. Did my research and Consumer Reports and other various review sites didn't state any issues. I too have discovered that the tub bearings are bad and repairing the washer would be $1600. I was told by the repairman that he says this is a common issue with Whirlpool and I should avoid this product in the future. Angry that the machine didn't last and that Whirlpool knew they put bad bearings in the washer and wouldn't issue a recall. I will NEVER buy from Whirlpool again.

1.0 out of 5 stars Clothes Eating Machine, March 26, 2012
This review is from: Whirlpool : WFW9550WW 4.4 cu. ft. Front Load Steam Washer - White
We got it from Sears. After about 2 months of using, it suddenly ate ˝ load of our clothes, like a mad dog. Sears sent someone over to fix it, but he suggested us to take it back to Sears for a better repair. He also suggested us to use bleach to have an empty cycle monthly, and use HE detergent with only ˝ load each time.

We took it back to Sears, but they insisted to give us another refurbished one. We rejected & demanded a brand new one & pay us the clothes it ate. So after arguing with Sears for ˝ hour, they made us pay for the shipping to get a new one from the manufacturer, Whirlpool. We followed the suggestions as the Sears tech told us. Yet, after about 1˝ yrs of using, now this new replacement one is eating our clothes too, but not as bad as the first one. We found the sealer was broken in pieces on the top. We went to ask the tech again, they told us to order the sealer for $160. It is surely a high maintenance machine. We are so regret to buy this.

Yup, Whirlpool has to get this recall. It is so unfair to us the consumers, especially it is not a cheap washer.

1.0 out of 5 stars never ever buy one, January 17, 2012
This review is from: Whirlpool : WFW9550WW 4.4 cu. ft. Front Load Steam Washer - White
We purchased this washer from Sears in Dec 10 and had trouble with the cycle button after 4 mos. It would not light up where the arrow was pointed and instead lit the opposite side. We called for service within the one year warranty period. They replaced the electrical panel. Now one year and 2 weeks past the purchase date, the same exact problem has happened. out of warranty. the repair is only guaranteed for 90 days. What a piece of junk. Super expensive. Our old Whirlpool lasted 15+ years. This one is trash in 14 months.

1.0 out of 5 stars Duet breaks big time !!!, July 10, 2011

This review is from: Whirlpool : WFW9550WW 4.4 cu. ft. Front Load Steam Washer - White
My washer Whirlpool Duet WFW 9750 is one of the most expensive washers on market but the bearing broke one month after the warranty ended. It make horrible loud sound. I will fix it on my own if I get the parts but probably it'll will take me whole weekend . It is a big job. I just wached it on you tube. I will never buy this brand again. I'll get MIELE in future, I hope it'll last longer than this masterpiece. ZERO stars even the mashine is washing nicely.
