I purchased the whirlpool duet steam gas dryer and the whirlpool duet steam washer. This is a review of the Whirlpool duet steam washer. I was initially, very excited about the arrival of my new washer. I have 2 kids and do A LOT of laundry, plus my husband and I go to the gym often, so we have double the amount of clothes to wash. Initially, I liked the fact that I could fit almost double the amount of laundry easily into this new washer than my previous maytag. Now that I have been using it for 3 months, I can tell you without any hesitation that I absolutely hate it. The 2 biggest issues are that it does not wash your clothes properly, they do not smell or appear clean and 2. it takes FOREVER to wash them. I use the extra soil option along with the deep clean option, this alone will take an hour and 20 minutes, the normal cycle takes 50 minutes for a regular cycle, but I always opt for heavy soil for he reason mentioned above which takes 60 minutes. I use the Tide HE and snuggle fabric softener, yet my clothes come out of the dryer smelling moldy. Also after washing your clothes, they are often tangled up in the washer as you remove them, especially jeans, long pants or long sleeve shirts (even very small cycles). I use the clean cycle more than recommended hoping that this will help (it doesn't), I have cut my loads in half to make them smaller thinking maybe that was the problem (it wasn't). it makes no difference, espeically thicker items such as bath towels. This never happened with my old school maytag. It takes me 2 days to my laundry and I wash clothes 2 times per week. I wish I could be writing a positive review encouraging you to buy it, but unfortunatley, that is not the case. This washer (and dryer) is/are very expensive. In this economy, don't waist your money like we did. sorry.

We purchased this washer/ dryer set about a year ago and overall I am quite pleased with it. I wash all our clothes with cold water, use an eco-friendly detergent, and find my clothes come out nice and clean. I haven't had this experience with many other washers. I find the heavy soiled feature great for things like dish towels and anything our dogs use, but otherwise don't find the need to use it. The delicate cycle has been great for blouses and shirts, and the dryer does wonders on them. I rarely have to iron slacks or shirts anymore (although most of our shirts are wrinkle resistant...)
As for the downsides of this washer, there are two I find I've had to work around. The first is that the washer seals tightly, so if you wash a load and come back to it two days later, you may find it smells moldy. After three days, you will certainly need to rewash it. The second is that you need to put these goofy tablets in to clean the washer itself about every other month, another consequence of its tight seal. We find that leaving the door open alleviates this problem, although its a hard habit to make. I have no complaints whatsoever about the dryer.

Broke after only 3 years,

Started getting error messages F35 and Suds. There is little to no information about these error messages in the manual. On looking at online repair forums, it's obvious that it's indicating it needs a new analog pressure switch, which became a known problem at least in 2009, only one year after I bought my machine in 2008. When I called Whirlpool, rather than apologize that they produced a faulty product and send a replacement part, they are charging me almost $100 for the part and $16 for shipping, for the 'privilege' of having my washer down for however long it takes to get and install the part. I am writing Whirlpool off my list of companies from whom I buy appliances.
