Whirlpool Countertop Microwave

Customer Reviews

The microwave works well and is very quiet.

My previous microwave allowed me to deactivate them; and I don't see why Whirlpool is so insistent on having these five LOUD, piercing, aggravating sounds ringing out.

The new one has a start button that is hard to push.

You can't buy this microwave at your local dept. store or the orange/blue box stores for some reason. I wasted gas visiting all the stores and they only have overstock microwaves that have bad or mediocre reviews. I think they're just trying to off load their excess inventory on customers who need a microwave immediately that day. I'd suggest ordering a microwave online where you can read the reviews, buy at sale prices, and have it delivered right to your door. This will save you from heavy lifting and the costs and stress associated with driving your car to all the stores and waiting in line to buy your microwave.

You can forget calling the orange box store, because I think the employees are told not to answer the phone. This ploy makes you drive to their warehouse where your more likely to break open your wallet to buy something. There were employees sitting at desks talking to each other or just standing around when I visited, so I don't buy the excuse that they are all too busy with customers to answer the phone. I tried posting my review on their web site, but they won't post my review after I commented on their employees never answering the phone. Anyways, you can order this microwave online for $99 + tax at the orange box store. Order as a "guest" if you don't want to create a user name and password.

Many new microwaves don't include the light bulb feature that shines when you open the door. I shopped specifically for that light bulb feature, because I like to see inside the microwave when I'm wiping off food splatter. The digital display is easy to read and all the buttons are self explanatory. The interior rotating glass is large enough to fit a 11" dinner plate. This microwave heats much better than my 10 yr old Samsung microwave I donated.

This was just delivered last week, but so far, so good. It was delivered in only three business days and arrived in good condition. The microwave works well and is very quiet. It's a nice size, not too big, not too small. It's easy to use and program and the white color goes well in my kitchen. Also, the light goes on not only when the microwave is running, but when you open the door. On many other microwaves, the light goes on only when it's running, which doesn't make any sense. I would recommend this microwave to anyone who needs to purchase a new one.

[May 23, 2013} This microwave performs very well; and I would give it five stars except there is no way to turn off the end-of-cycle "tones". I hate that with a passion. My previous microwave allowed me to deactivate them; and I don't see why Whirlpool is so insistent on having these five LOUD, piercing, aggravating sounds ringing out. They are an affront to my auditory sensibilities (as well as, probably, those of my neighbors). They're not even fast: each separate beep lingers torturously.

Why not allow the machine to simply quietly - stop - when it's done cooking if the owner wants that? Just plain ol' stop. If ignored, it's not going to keep cooking your food to a crisp, like an oven would if left to its own devices.

[June 4, 2013} I have discovered that pressing "Cancel" right at the end of the cooking cycle stops the noise. It does mean that you have to be right there and not off vacuuming or canoodling; but, hey.

I started out with the Amana Radar Range years ago and I have never found another cheaper microwave that measures up. The Whirlpool is light weight and moves every time you open and close the door. I finally had to put a piece of granite behind it so it stays put. It works OK and is easy to use for what we use it for, making tea and heating frozen dinners. It seems to be accurate. There is a plastic film over the push buttons and it is already coming loose.

We bought this to replace our old microwave of the same brand and size. We liked the old one much better. The new one has a start button that is hard to push. I mean, you really have to push hard. Otherwise, this is a fine microwave, but I would not buy it again.
