TOP 500 REVIEWERon March 24, 2013
With no place but my kitchen counter for a microwave, I've spent the last ten years on the lookout for the smallest one I could find - at last, I've found it.

I don't "cook" anything in my microwave - I use it to warm stuff, melt stuff, defrost stuff and make popcorn - that's about it. Still, I'd miss it the first time I let a cup of coffee get cold or wanted to melt some butter, so I just can't bring myself to be without one.

I don't want/need a microwave oven with a lot of bells and whistles. All I want it to do is the few things I mentioned, and I want it SMALL, really small. Honestly, I think there are plenty of folks who use a microwave oven just like me, and I think Whirlpool is brilliant for acknowledging this and creating a truly compact microwave oven just for this demographic. And needless to say, it would perfect for a college dorm room.

No, it doesn't have a keypad to enter in the cooking time - it has plus and minus touch buttons (+ -) to add or decrease the cooking time - BIG DEAL - how hard is it to touch the + button three times, followed by the start button to give your cold cup of coffee a 15-second warm-up? Also, if the "start" button is pressed, it turns the oven on and automatically sets the cook time for 30 seconds, then each time it's pressed again, it adds another 30 seconds...another quick way to add time.

It's a handsome little thing (see the pictures I've posted), and all the functions are incredibly intuitive - I have yet to look at the instruction manual. With its curved back, it fits perfectly into a corner, freeing up valuable countertop real estate - I love it. It's a little pricey for a little low-function microwave oven - but it's worth it. As an Amazon Prime member, I paid the $4 extra for next-day delivery; I couldn't get it fast enough.

Just got this yesterday. Used it several times with satisfying results.

Note: The five stars are for the oven. I find product ratings based on seller service are useless when I'm trying to decide whether to buy something. I'd like to comment that, in the case of Abt, the service was excellent. Despite the free shipping for this large, heavy box, the oven arrived satisfyingly quickly. The outer box was impeccable, and the inside was well padded. Abt's return policy is also fair.

Pros:
amusing design; good for corner diagonal placement
small footprint
bright interior light
quiet operation
large enough turntable for dinner plate
tall enough inside for covered casserole dish
sturdy turntable support
handy 30-second start-button timer; hope the button holds up, because I'll use it a lot
easy +/- timer increment works fast or slow depending on how long button is held
700 watts, but heated as quickly as 1000 watt previous microwave
well balanced for carrying
easy front operation; white on black background, so the lettering can be read
door opens with a simple pull; one less button to wear out

Cons:
stainless outside finish $10 more expensive
stainless outside finish shows construction seams and attachments; not as attractive as smooth plastic; looks tinny
taller than the typical small microwave oven; check space requirement carefully; bigger than it looks in pictures
cannot accommodate 12" diameter plates, which some things are
does not have convection feature
wastes a front button on popcorn

The unique rounded design allows this microwave to fit easily into a corner. It's pretty tall though so measure your location before ordering it to ensure it will fit. Overall this is a great unit for conveniently warming up food. It lacks the ability to set a cooking time directly. You basically need to keep pressing a 30 second button which keeps adding 30 seconds to the cook time. And it beeps every time you press a button and the beeping is not mutable - meaning you will hear it all the time. So if you're looking for a serious cooking microwave - this is likely not the one. But for simple quick heating jobs - this unit works well. I am happy with it.

After installing a new double oven to replace a single with a microwave combo I was left in need of a countertop microwave. It had to be small so as not to take up counterspace and I needed blue display lights to match all of my other appliances' light displays (things like that annoy me). Black or silver...all my appliances are stainless and my granite is black. This is perfect. Fits in the corner and easy to use. Looks like an odd little tv...which I like since I like quirky looking things that do their job. I boght several other microwaves these past few weeks- pure stainless...blck...larger...even the nostalgia retro one...all went back...this one is perfect. I don't do major cooking in a microwave and if takes a few seconds longer, well, it really does not matter as we are all in too big of a rush anyway:)

I'm so happy that I came across this little beauty! It's modern, compact and works like a charm!

It fits my large 12" round plates... and I really haven't found anything that won't fit in there. It's lower watts so for some things it takes an extra 30 sec to a minute to heat up some frozen stuff, but no other complaints.

Most microwave ovens have a rotating plate inside with several inches to the side where the magnetron that provides heating power resides and the displays are situated. This one places the magnetron below, along with the displays; the interior exactly surrounds the 11 inch rotating plate. It ends up taking about 6 inches less counter space than conventional small microwaves, yet still holds large dinner plates. Controls are intuitive, and the power is adequate. It is sized and looks similar to a 13 inch CRT television set. The back is rounded and facilitates placement in a corner. After 17 months of daily use (as of May 2014), it continues to operate perfectly. We bought locally to avoid risking the large "restocking" fees charged by some of the Amazon vendors.

This is a very nice little microwave. But it does NOT have 10 power levels as indicated. It has only 4. You can set the power at 25%, 50%, 75%, or 100%. I called Whirlpool to check on this, and their answer was that, in addition to the 5 basic levels (they count 0% as one power level), there are 5 function buttons, like defrost, popcorn, Reheat, Add 30 Seconds, and Cancel. In what has to be the height of absurdity, they count each of these buttons as separate power levels. Beyond the fact that they are simply programed settings that make use of one or the other of the 4 power settings, the last two aren't even power related.

I count this plainly and simply as misleading advertising.

And, while I am upset at being misled, I will say the the item is really quite nice. I suspect the 4 power settings that it has will provide more than adequate flexibility. So I am not upset with the product but write this to keep others from being misled.

This microwave is fine. It is not great. It takes three and a half minutes to warm up a cup of coffee, but since that is its only function on our counter it is doing its job, just slower than some of the more powerful ones. Its size is definitely a plus and fits in a wee corner. Its not having more programable numbers is annoying as one has to hold the button as the time counts up incrementally, but for a cup warmer it will do.

I love this microwave. It's the best and easiest microwave I’ve ever used. The 30 second intervals is great and you can also decrease or increase the time by 5 second intervals by simply pressing the - or + indicator. I love when you hold the button for the 30 second timer it automatically continues to add 30 seconds until you take your finger off the indicator, how easy it is to time it for 2 minutes by simply listening for 4 beeps instead of looking for the numbers to push. I love if you stop it before time has expired and you leave it alone it will automatically reset to 0. I also love when you leave the door open the light will automatically go off while still open. I love the quietness of opening and closing the door and when in use. I also love how high the door opens from the counter top allowing you to have a plate in front of the microwave allowing you to open the door without knocking something on the floor or always having to keep the front cleared in order to open and close the door. I LOVE THIS MICROWAVE, VERY SIMPLE AND CONVENIENT. I also love how it looks. When on, you can see very clearly what is being microwaved. I LOVE THIS THING!

Whirlpool's description of this microwave is spot on.

The only thing that would be nice would be a numeric keypad, but there really isn't space given the compact design.

We have oversized dinner plates, and they fit in here with very little to spare, which means this microwave is perfect for us.
