This stands for Direct Injection as their main purpose is to convert unbalanced and/or high impedance instrument signals into a format suitable for direct connection to a mixing console - without the use of a microphone. In 1981, Whirlwind developed and produced the first commercially available Direct Box in the audio industry.

Rating a DI box is like rating how well your fork and spoon work. It does what it is supposed to do without issue, dependable. The 'lift' switch is great for those venues where buzz becomes a problem. It eliminates the nightmare for the sound guys!

decent DI box for the amount paid. bought a few to be used for guitar/bass/synth into a mixing board. didnt want to spend money on batteries for an active box and this is probably one of the better passive boxes in that price range. go for countryman if you got the cash to spend. its a little better, but imp2 works for me.
