4.0 out of 5 stars Master At Work, July 30, 2003

When CTI Records could not comprehend Deodato's huge success with Prelude, his career stalled. His shift to MCA Records gave the fusion world this all-time masterpiece and first release under his new label that could have faired better on the sound engineering side which did not give much sheen to the tracks, hence 4 stars. The Japanese remaster from MCA Victor did justice in salvaging an improved re-issue from the original lack-lustre release. Otherwise, this would be full marks with multi-dexterous drummer Billy Cobham (of Mahavishnu Orchestra fame) and guitarist John Tropea at the fore of the star session attractions. Deodato will not settle for less when it comes to top notch session players for his ever essential horns, strings and flute sections either. Recommended tracks: Moonlight Serenade, West 42nd Street, Whirlwinds.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-have CD for the 70's generation - extremely relaxing, September 15, 1999

This review is from: Whirlwinds (Audio CD)
I still have very clear and fond memories of my high-school days (ca.1971-1975) when we would listen to eumir's prelude and whirlwind vinyl albums. the popcorn sound didn't matter if you're listening to a totally exhilirating artist. if my memory serves me right, deodato also had master- pieces like superstrut and skyscraper. maybe some one else can send comments and details on these two titles so i can add them to my collection. deodato is extremely talented. i can spend the rest of the day just listening to his music. i wish i can buy this cd very soon.
