Mojo Nixon, star of psychobilly music and Sirius/XM satellite radio (and B-Movie supporting actor), is officially un-retired from the music business. With "Whiskey Rebellion", a collection of previously unreleased tracks, he comes back swinging with both fists.
(To the historically negligent, the Whiskey Rebellion of 1791 to 1794 was an uprising of Pennsylvania farmers after George Washington imposed a tax on whiskey to pay for the American Revolution, and the only time a sitting President commanded troops in the field.)
The true stand-outs on this collection are "Just A Little Favor For the Kinkster" (a story song of how Mojo helped retrieve a car belonging to the girlfriend of his friend Kinky Friedman, with the car in California and Kinky in Texas), "Can't Find My Keys" (about the frustration of married life), "Ain't Got Nobody" (a truly ass-kickin' dance number), "Prisoner of the Tiki Room" (a tribute to Tom Waits, complete with kickbox beat and growling vocals), "I Gotta Connect" (which comes very close to Top-40 Pop) and "Christians I Hate 'Em" (a twisted bluegrass instrumental, punctuated by Mojo's growls and moans).
Mojo shows his sporting side with "World Cup 94" and "Arctic Evil Kinevel-Luge Team" (Mojo was the the honorary captain of the U.S.A. Men's Doubles Luge Team at the Olympics in Nagano, Japan).
Of course, no Mojo collection would be complete without songs about things and people he doesn't like, such as "What's Up Judge Judy's Ass?", "Dr. Laura, Who Made You God?", "You Gotta Be Insane to Fly In Private Small Planes" (listing the names of celebrities who perished in small plane crashes) and a re-working of an earlier recording of his, "I Ain't Gonna Piss In No Jar".
Mojo announced on his website that he will have a two city tour to promote this CD. Can a nationwide tour be in the making? A collection of new material? Pretty please?
Mojo, we need you now more than ever!
