Nina Wright has done it again. She has not only written a successful sequel to her first book, Whiskey on the Rocks, but improved upon it. All her characters returned in addition to Abra's new puppy, Prince Harry. The little prince has inherited his mother's way of getting into trouble. Ms. Wright's characterization is so vivid that you'll think you're flying in a helicopter with Whiskey.

Chester, Abra's keeper, vanishes mysteriously and Whiskey who is presently attracted to three (yes, three) men is desperately trying to remember her caretaker duties when she happens upon the body of her obnoxious real estate rival and mayor, Gil.

I won't reveal all of the antics but some of the one liners Ms. Wright "writes" are delivered with humor and delight. You will laugh outloud and have to reread them to again. It's that funny. Oh and the mystery is wonderful also.

Visit Magnet Springs and you too will be sucked into a cast of characters that will remind you of people in your hometown.

Author Wright sets up to tickle more funny bones in her whimsical sadistical who-dunnit. For readers who can't turn down a second glass, realtor Whiskey brings to the table her suite of Magnet Springs odd-bods. Legacies of her second and dead husband: a real estate office, malicious step-daughter with hunk of a boyfriend, high-maintenance Afghan hounds and celebrity neighbor Cassandra and son Chester have usurped her private life. When town drunk and ex-con Roy Vickers enters it, all Hell breaks loose on a frozen lake where the town mayor's body is found in an ice-fishing shack. Chester disappears during the same ice-fishing Jamboree. Whiskey as the boy's babysitter and Roy's new employer has set herself up for this hilarious follow-up to Whiskey on the Rocks.

I don't like real estate agents, new age singers, dogs or cold weather, but a little whisky makes everything look better. This is a pretty funny set of mysteries here. Somewhere between Murder She Wrote and Northern Exposure, only with words.Well worth checking out and passing around.

I'm always looking for a new mystery series, and I just happened upon this book. I'm definitely hooked. I loved the main character, and I also loved the small town setting. I think the supporting cast was great, and I even liked them more than the mystery.The novel itself is fast paced, and it revolves mainly around Whiskey's lost charge, Chester.

I like lots of kinds of mysteries, from literary to chick-lit. Although this series features a chick-lit type heroine, it's better written and has broader appeal. In fact, I gave copies of this book to several male friends and male family members; they all liked it a lot. The reason? The heroine, Whiskey Mattimoe, is the kind of gal men like. She makes 'em laugh; moreover, she's smart, athletic, and independent enough to earn their respect. This is also a well-constructed mystery with enough suspense to keep you turning pages way past bedtime.

The second book in the Whiskey Mattimoe series, "Whiskey Straight Up" was even more fun for me than the first book if that is possible. I enjoyed every page. There are lots of laughs and lots and lots of excitement - a real page turner. Plus, I got to re-visit all of the unique and charming characters who live in Magnet Springs - they make you want to go visit and have lunch and a cup of coffee at The Goh Cup! If you like a good mystery with lots of plot twists, incredible, well defined characters and laughs along the way, this series is for you! Nina Wright knows how to grab your attention immediately and not let go until you have read the last word on the last page. Don't miss it!

This sequel to Whiskey on the Rocks enables the reader to better get to know Ms. Wright's quirky, lovable cast of characters. I wish I could book a vacation trip to colorful Magnet Springs!

I took this book to the pool on a recent 115 degree day. The cover alone helped cool things down. And Wright's rapid-paced tale of kidnapping and murder made me forget the heat. The scene where a certain body slides into frozen Lake Michigan is as thrillingly written as any action sequence I've ever read.

Whiskey Mattimoe rides again (and helicopters, snowmobiles, ice-skates) in this funny and action-packed sequel to Whiskey on the Rocks, and it's fabulous! This time the smart, sassy realtor (and reluctant guardian, stepmother, and dog-owner) finds herself up a--frozen--creek, when a Winter Jamboree complete with ice-fishing and snowball fights, offer a far more chilling event: murder.

Add kidnapping, the return of the ex-con who shot her late husband, the romantic attentions of her first husband and an animal-activist vet . . . plus the antics of the irrepressible afghan, Abra, with her pup Prince Harry, and you can bet Whiskey finds herself in a blizzard of trouble.

The resort setting of Magnet Springs, replete with quirky characters from the (seriously) "magnetic" Chief of Police, to the staff of Mattimoe Realty, and the New Age local entrepreneurs, remain as charming and offbeat as ever--the perfect cast for this great comic mystery.

Pull on a parka, pile up the snowballs (and a few dog biscuits), fix yourself a hot toddy--and settle in for a great read. Nina Wright has another winner!

I love the Mattimore Mysteries! They are what a mystery should be...suspense, adventure with a large dose of humor. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a good lighthearted book to read especially on a rainy Sunday afternoon.
