5.0 out of 5 stars She done it once again!
Ms. Maureen is a wonderful author and she's done it again with Whisper My Name. Romantic suspense is her thing! You have two people who don't seem to go together...sexy Sebastian and "frumpy" Frankie. Frankie is anything but frumpy! She just needed the right man to make her feel like a woman. And boooooy does Sebastian do that. Throw in a serial killer, Mexican...

As I read this book I started thinking that I'd read a similar story not long ago. Then I realized that I had - No One But You by Maureen Smith. While I found this story to be interesting, it was much too similar to No One But you. Two people see each other, meet, fall in love in only 2 weeks and get married in a matter of months. 4.0 out of 5 stars (RAW Rating: 4.5) - The Spider Lady, July 28, 2007
By
The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers (RAWSISTAZ.com and BlackBookReviews.net) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Whisper My Name (Mass Market Paperback)
Maureen Smith has penned a riveting tale with WHISPER MY NAME. From the start, the story is engrossing and thrilling with the makings of a classic romance with the added ingredients of familial love, strife and mystery. WHISPER MY NAME is the unforeseen meeting between Francesca "Frankie" Purnell, a professor of entomology, and Sebastien Durand, a detective with the San Antonio, Texas police department.

Upon eyeing Frankie in a coffee house, Sebastien is smitten with her beauty despite her homely appearance. Dubbed the Spider Lady by her peers and her students, Frankie has no interest in changing her clothing or her hairstyle. Her only interests are her students and her research. As Sebastein ogles her, he receives a call about a murder in the city. Unable to make an introduction, he leaves the scene to begin his investigation. The investigation leads him to a murdered female with a spider freshly tattooed on her body. During his research he stumbles across an article, written by Frankie, on the Mexican Blood Walker spider, the same spider tattooed on the murder victim. Assuming the author is a man, he locates the professor's home to interview her on her findings and is surprised to find the object his affection is Frankie. This meeting is the beginning of a casual relationship, which spirals into more.

The author has provided a very vivid and picturesque imagery of the area in and around San Antonio. The study of spiders is summarized in a logical manner and the mystery surrounding the numerous murders, held a suspenseful edge to the end. While several suspects were depicted in minute fashion, the identity of the culprit was not obvious; this made for a shocking revelation. Furthermore, the author has provided a backdrop of sibling rivalry and jealously which was engaging and profound. This coupled with the relationship of Sebastien and his grandmother and their ascent from hurricane ravaged New Orleans, produced a multi-layered story filled with longing, passion and affection.

Well Maureen has done it again you will not be disappointed in this book. I tell you Sebastien & Francesca are a HOT COUPLE & there love scene is OH LA LA. Det. Sebastien Durand of San Antonio is assigned to the initial murder case, and soon seeks the help of Francesca Purnell.
Sabastien did exactly what the title said "Whisper her name" smile

3.0 out of 5 stars Feelings of Deja vu, April 1, 2009
This review is from: Whisper My Name (Mass Market Paperback)
As I read this book I started thinking that I'd read a similar story not long ago. Then I realized that I had - No One But You by Maureen Smith. While I found this story to be interesting, it was much too similar to No One But you. Two people see each other, meet, fall in love in only 2 weeks and get married in a matter of months. With so many pages to read, it just didn't seem realistic to me.

Ms. Smith does a good job of developing most of the story, however the romance was just not realistic.

I will give another book a try since I really enjoyed the first book of hers that I read. But I hope it's not a similar love story.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fresh read, November 2, 2007

Whisper my Name was a refreshing book to read. It was not just about the romance but believing in yourself and finding your inner beauty. Frankie could not get past the fact that Sebastian choose her when he could have any woman he wanted. Her sister Tommie is the beauty while Frankie is the brains. Love is love. But loving yourself comes first. Ms. Smith did a fabulous job with this story and had a great mix of romance and suspense. This book is full of surprises, and you won't believe who is behind the spider tattoos. I hope Ms. Smith does a follow up on Tommie.

3.0 out of 5 stars Didn't Get The Title, November 15, 2011

This review is from: Whisper My Name (Mass Market Paperback)
I've been on a Maureen Smith kick for the last few weeks now. I read Like No One Else first and then this book. They are similar stories, way too similar for my liking. I liked the former book better.

Can I say that I did not like the cover models. The guy does not look sexy at all, not what I would imagine Sebastien to look like. He looks more like a thug than the sexy cop he's supposed to me (IMHO.)

I'm disappointed with who the killer turned out to be. Did not make much sense to me. Didn't like that the killer in LNOE was also in the same line of work as the killer in this book.

Also what was up with the title of the book? Why did the killer care or want his victims to whisper his name? His name was not that special.

****** Spoiler Alert *******

I thought Peter Ueno would have been a better killer. He was in a similar field as Francesca. He had the hots for her. He lied about being at the strip club. So why wasn't he the killer??????

5.0 out of 5 stars Cajun spice detective thriller, October 14, 2011

Sabastien Durand is not really looking for love, or is he? Francesca (Frankie the Spider lady) doesn't really think she deserves love, or so it seems. The saying goes 'Come to my web says the spider to the fly'. In this read Maureen Smith has Frankie winning the man of her dreams without even spinning a web. Very unsuspecting good ending. Good read.

right until the very end! Totally surprised at the killer's identity.

This was a really good book. It was suspenseful and sexy and I really enjoyed it. Sebastien was too hot! And I loved quirky Frankie. Tommie was a real trip and I was so glad when Sebastien finally put her in her place. With sisters like her, who needs...well, you know the line.

Another good one from Maureen Smith.

This was a great book - have read some of Maureen's books but this one with the mystery etc. was great. Loved the two main characters - Sebastian is just too cute. Very well written with all the details of murder, police investigation etc. have just downloaded the next one which tells the story of Tommie, Frankie's sister.
