1.0 out of 5 stars AM I MISSING SOMETHING???
Words can not express how much I hated this book. I barely read past the first few pages before I wondered what I was missing. I had read all the reviews so I pressed on hoping it would get better, it didn't. If I could give this book a negative number I would for the following reasons:

*SPOILERS *SPOILERS *SPOILERS *SPOILERS *SPOILERS *SPOILERS *SPOILERS*...

5.0 out of 5 stars Love conquers all..., May 31, 2007
This review is from: Whisper Something Sweet (Paperback)
Ms. King-Bey offers an explosive story of romance and eroticism to her readers in Whisper Something Sweet.

Monica "Sweetie" Fuller is a financial analyst who has fallen in love with her company's largest client over the telephone. Sweetie is a free spirited, big hearted woman that is fiercely loyal to those that she loves. This is proven by her first introduction to the reader; as she is about to beat down her best friends abusive boyfriend.

Gabriel is the client who swept Monica off of her feet by his sexy voice and hidden innuendo. Gabriel is so taken by Monica's phone conversation that he hatches a plan to bring them face to face by flying her and her group to meet him. He is more than a little surprised when the plane lands and she is not on it. He makes up his mind then that if she won't come to him, he would go to her.

Upon his arrival, Gabriel heads over to Monica's office to surprise her. Instead he is the one with the surprise when he is greeted by a high maintenance model type woman who is the exact opposite of what he wants or expected to find.

Monica's best friend Tess is sitting at Monica's desk when Gabriel arrives. Gabriel mistakes her for Monica and proceeds to tell her that she looks just like he pictured her. Monica over hears this and is so devastated that she asks Tess to pretend to be her. Meanwhile Gabriel is a little disappointed because he meets the woman introduced to him as Sweetie (the real Monica) and is immediately and magnetically drawn to her.

I am hesitant to continue for fear of telling you how this tale plays out, but I will say that you will be in for a hysterical ride and a real treat for your reading pleasure. Ms. King-Bey has totally outdone herself as she takes her readers on a whirlwind romance from beginning to end. This is most definitely my favorite Deatri King-Bey read and I highly recommend this at the top of everyone's summer reading list. On a side note, I must also commend this author for creating a plus sized protagonist. It is rare that there is a leading lady larger than a size 7 with as much class, confidence and overall charisma as seen in Monica. Kudos.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dee's Best Work Ever!, June 1, 2007
This review is from: Whisper Something Sweet (Paperback)
I am a big fan of Deatri King-Bey and she has once again made me proud! The story line is wonderful, not too overdone and very well written. I loved her development of the characters: Monica also known as "Sweetie" and Tess, especially Tess. Ms. King-Bey made them human, with all their flaws and their good traits. The male characters were also wonderful and evolved throughout the story in a believable way! Oh, and let's not forget about the steamy love/sex scenes! Those were great! There were a few typos, but nothing major and/or took away from the enjoyment of the book. This is my favorite book of Deatri King-Bey to date! A great read!

4.0 out of 5 stars Deliciously Sweet Treat, September 17, 2007

This review is from: Whisper Something Sweet (Paperback)
In "Whisper Something Sweet", Mrs. Deatri King-Bey has spun a highly erotic romance for our reading pleasure. This is the third novel I've read by Mrs. King-Bey, and although it's not my favorite, it was still an enjoyable read. "Whisper Something Sweet" is definitely a grab your attention mixture of romance, suspense, some intense & steamy love scenes, not too mention the many real life issues thrown in the mix such as physical abuse, drug dealing, absentee father, overbearing mothers, etc... The characters are well developed and quite memorable. The storyline flows smoothly. And with all the drama in this novel you couldn't possibly get bored. You will find yourself on one heck of an entertaining ride! It will have you LOL, shedding a few tears and then saying, Oh, My..., throughout. This novel gives you not one but two, whirlwind romances. Gabriel and Sweetie's fast-paced love affair kept the pages sizzlin' and then add the fire between Tess and James, it's a miracle the book didn't burst in to flames with all the fiery passion flowing throughout. Gabriel and Sweetie had a very special bond, I enjoyed their relationship. And I love the fact that Mrs. King-Bey made Sweetie a "plus-size" woman, with loads of confidence, charm, class and independence. Gabriel was definitely a handsome, protective, want-to-take charge, but willing to let his lady lead, got it goin'on kind of guy. "Whisper Something Sweet" was a deliciously sweet read!

Updated review for this version:

BRIEF SUMMARY
Sweetie aka Monica caught her fiancé in bed with another woman. Since that day she has been celibate with the pleasure of herself. But Gabriel tempts her to break all her rules. Sweetie has been communicating with Gabriel at work over the phone. Sweetie doesn't think much of her full figured appearance after what her ex fiancé did to her. But Gabriel decides one day to show up because he wants more and decided to take matters into his own hands and visit Sweetie at her office.

THOUGHTS
The moment Shelia Goss posted this book in my FB group I immediately came over to post my review. This is still one of my favorite books. I wanted this book for so long to be in ebook format and it's finally here thank you, Deatri King-Bey.

When I originally read this book 2 years ago, I fell in love with Sweetie's character. I liked that Sweetie had a cooperate position, but still had real issues that most women go through everyday. Though she was strong on the outside, what her fiancé did really affected her. Gabriel, wow, I thought he was just so fine, sexy and demanding when he finally met Sweetie. Even though Sweetie did a switch-a-rue on him in the beginning, because she thought he wouldn't love her physical appearance. What the author did by having both characters communicate by phone for sometime first definitely added to the story's appeal. The secondary characters were just as nice. I remember Tess and James's story line as well; their story was just as cute within the story but did not detract from Sweetie and Gabriel's story.

I have to say, I love the original cover, but I love this one as well.

Storyline: GOOD
Intimacy: VERY GOOD
Enjoyment: GOOD

5.0 out of 5 stars Romantic Suspense with a Kick, May 18, 2007
This review is from: Whisper Something Sweet (Paperback)
Two friends, Monica and Tess, both have distinct personalities come together for a blockbuster account of friendship and love. Monica "Sweetie" Fuller is a strong willed, proud, Black woman who is a powerful financial analyst in the corporate world. She used her childhood experiences - a verbally abusive mom, absentee father and constant pressure to be the best from her brothers - as motivators to seek perfection. Her best friend, Tess was the exact opposite, she is a carefree spirit that requires the love and attention from a man because she never got it as a child.

Ok, so where did the romance come in? Tess was head over heels in love with Kevin, an abusive and cunning man. Sweetie had the fever for international business mogul, Gabriel. The realization of love would elude them as life consistently gets in way - drugs, job insecurity, family background, and revenge. Their roles were clear - Sweetie took care of Tess's problems always saving the day until the unthinkable occurs. It may be time for Tess to step up.

WHISPER SOMETHING SWEET has an attention-grabbing mixture of suspense, romance, with exhilarating love scenes. The characters evolve in such a way that will remind you of the friends you keep. There is so much drama in this story that readers never get a chance to pause and catch their breath. Run out and buy this today because it will be flying off the shelves.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tasty, July 5, 2007
This review is from: Whisper Something Sweet (Paperback)
What do you get when you combine a sophisticated bodaciously breathtaking full figured woman and a delectably dashing man? A delightful experience. Whisper Something Sweet puts a refreshing twist on an age old story. Monica "Sweetie" Fuller is a successful financial analyst with a big heart and a lucrative career; however, she hasn't been particularly successful in the romance department. Gabriel Windahl is Monica's firm's biggest client. What starts out as a pleasant working conversation via telephone, soon translates into a meaningful emotional connection. Ms. King-Bey did a fantastic job of interspersing this story with dynamic secondary characters and some age old issues that African-American women have dealt with since, seemingly, the beginning of time (e.g. colorism, classism, and self-worth), while still maintaining the fictional/romantic edge. As a plus sized woman, it was really refreshing to read a novel that focused on all of the attributes that a full sized individual can possess. The principle characters had a deep adoration for one another that was based on more than sonmething so trivial as superficial stereotypical physicial features. I also throughly enjoyed the dialogue between Sweetie and Gabriel. This book actually reaffirmed my assertion that there are still some good men available (At least in the world of fiction). Here was a man who was implicitly committed to a woman and would take nothing less than her total commitment as well, while still remaining cognizant of the fact that this woman had her own mind and respecting her atonomy. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a feel good realistic read with a heavy dose of lessons that can be vaulable to us all.

I enjoyed this book from cover to cover. The chemistry between the two main characters was awesome, the passion was off the meter and then the love made life worth living.

I loved her patience, her strength and her love for her full size frame.
We all should be so proud of our bodies.

A great read, a great book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Story, June 3, 2007
This review is from: Whisper Something Sweet (Paperback)
Monica "Sweetie" Fuller is a thirty five year old analyst who is not one to take crap from men. She has actually gone celibate with the help of her drawer of "Toys." Sweetie has built her own private fantasy around her phone relationship with Gabriel, one of her clients. When she googles Gabriel, she learns that all the women in his life are slender and light and skinned, the exact opposite of her full figured chocolate skin self. When Gabriel comes to Chicago, Sweetie passes Tess off as herself unable to face her fantasy and deal with her insecurities.

Tess, Monica's secretary, gets beat-up by her boyfriend yet again. Tess must learn to stand on her own two feet, but her ex boyfriend's sudden appearance in the garage of her job hinders her progress. Tess believes he wants to win her back but her ex is looking for something else.

I love the way Deatri King Bey weaves a story. With Whisper Something Sweet, she builds a momentum that keeps you on your toes. When you think you know what is coming, this book takes you in a completely different direction, making the story even more intriguing. I related to the characters and felt like they were my friends

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice combination of storyline and eroticism, August 1, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is the 1st novel I've read by Deatri King-Bey and it was enjoyable. The characters are solid and have substance to them. So, many other erotic novels I've read have one dimensional characters in them, but not this novel. I liked the combination of storyline and eroticism, it was just the right amount of both elements. The only bad things were the overbearing mothers of both Sweetie and Gabriel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprising...., April 20, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Good read. The beginning was a bit off for me. But eventually I got with the flow of the story. Stroyline was really interesting with a sweet ending. Not sure if it was worth the money I paid though. If I could've gotten it on my Kindle that would have made my day cuz it would've been half the price.
