Best release of 2008 so far...,
By
This review is from: Whisper War (Audio CD)
For any of you who follow current music releases, you probably are aware that the last 6 months have been very dry. Not many good bands have released CDs, and the ones that have (like Panic At The Disco) released horrible albums. Perhaps in a year like 2006 with so many great releases, this CD would've gone unnoticed. But probably not.
The Cab's debut album is a perfect, delicious mix of pop/punk and pop/rock, with a touch of solid lyrics and great vocals. These songs do not create anything new or original (don't buy if you like Radiohead a lot), but they do perfect the string of pop/rock albums that have been coming out since the mid 90's and derive influences from classic pop like Fleetwood Mac and Journey. The songs are at turns sexy ("High Hopes In Velvet Ropes"), sweet ("Zzzzz"), emotional ballad ("Vegas Skies", a highlight, and "I'll Run"), bitter ("One Of THOSE Nights"), and amazingly perfect pop that brings Maroon 5, N*Sync, and the All-American Rejects together seamlessly ("Bounce"). Every single person I have played that latter song for has immediately fallen in love. To sum up: check out this CD. Unless you don't have any appreciation for great pop music. Then let it be for us who enjoy a not-so-guilty pleasure. Track-by-track: 1. One Of THOSE Nights - 4.5/5 - lead single, one of the album's rock moments. 2. Bounce - 5/5 - Best track on the album...sweet like candy. 3. I'll Run - 4.5/5 - great song all around. 4. High Hopes In Velvet Ropes - 5/5 - N*Sync with guitars. Better than it may seem. 5. That 70's Song - 4/5 - solid pop/rock. 6. Take My Hand - 3.5/5 - slightly weaker, but still enjoyable. 7. Risky Business - 5/5 - the album picks back up with this catchy track "hide the key, cause I'm coming over..." 8. I'm A Wonder - 3/5 - not up to par with the rest of the CD. 9. Zzzzz - 5/5 - yes, there are 5 z's...I counted. Bad title, great song. 10. Vegas Nights - 5/5 - the ballad. Grasp your heart and smile. 11. Can You Keep A Secret? - 4/5 - solid pop/punk track. 12. This City Is Contagious - 3/5 - still having trouble getting into it...perhaps a weak ending, or perhaps the next CD will make up for it.

This was greatly received by my daughter and grandaughters in Ohio. One member of the band is a nephew of a neighbor. It is neat to know a member of the band..The girls love the music and have told their friends about Whisper War/by THE CAB and looking forward to a concert in Ohio ....very impressive music even for a grandma. looking forward to more music from them.....

Boy-band Pop meets more Pop-Rock,
By blueberry (New York, NY) - See all my reviews

The Cab comes from the same label as Fallout Boy, so you wouldn't be shocked to hear similarities in their music. Having said that, The Cab is definitely Pop-Rock. The description of The Cab's sound by other reviewers on this site are pretty spot-on. Through the first few tracks you might think this album was the love child of NSYNC and any number of pop-rock bands. However, any comparisons to Maroon 5 is a little weak (Maroon 5 have a much "funkier" Pop-RNB vibe, whereas The Cab is more akin to Fallout Boy's "Dance Dance").
This isn't necessarily a bad thing. Just be warned, The Cab's Whisper War skews towards the younger crowd. Did I mention it's pop-rock? Listen to "I'll Run" and "Take My Hand" for catchy tracks with solid vocals. Personally, I prefer the tracks where The Cab is more rock and less bounce.

I have to admit, I'd never heard of these guys before I saw the album listed in my Amazon MP3 Newsletter. A quick preview of the first few songs convinced me to purchase most of the tracks (since it appears the entire album isn't available for download yet) and I am *loving* them! I agree that my faves are #4, #5 and #9 - but they are all really great and worth downloading!

This cd is very impressive. I've been looking for something original lately and this fit the bill quite nicely.
It sounds like a mix of Panic at the Disco and Maroon 5 to me, which is cool Take a listen

with Whisper War, The Cab have firmly implanted themselves in the music scene and with this excellently done debut cd and loads of touring. I know people will be hearing more and more from them in the future.
This cd is an energetic, fun filled romp that grabs you and takes you on a ride filled with great lyrics, vocals and sound from start to finish. With tracks such as: One of Those Nights Bounce I'll Run (one of my favs) High Hopes In Velvet That '70s Song (another) Take My Hand (another) Risky Business Zzzzz (you guessed it) Can You Keep A Secret? Again the whole cd minus the closing song which was cool but not really memorable. Its just a very well done cd that the band and the label obviously took a great deal of timing putting together and its very evident throughout. The Cab are about the music and in it for the long haul and i wish them much success and i feel they will have many more fans when its all said and done. Whisper War is a blast to listen to great replay value and it doesn't get old no matter how times you listen to it. 5 stars

WOW, what can i say. this is waaaay different than i thought! i actually used to play in a band with ian, the guitar player, when he lived in seattle, and we played ROCK music. nothing like this, but let me tell you. this will get you movin and in one of the best moods you have been in for a while. this album has everything you could hope for, plus some stuff you never even knew you wanted! i cant even begin to tell you how much you will listen to the CD over and over again. i cant take my ears away from it!

Got this cd because I knew they did a song with Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy (big fan) and I'm always looking to expand my music variety. Cd is ok, like that song the best. After enough music in this same genre all the bands just seem to blend together and this one did not really stand out.

This young band out of Las Vegas is breaking ground on the music scene and renovating pop rock. This Decaydance/Fueled by Ramen band brings familiar lyrics and sounds from bands like Fall Out Boy and Panic At The Disc (which both make appearances on the single "One of THOSE Nights") but improves the sounds with smooth sultry vocals, intricate guitar solos, and driven beats and keys. This is one of the best production CDs of recent years. They thrive with influences from Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder (which "I'm a Wonder" was influenced by), and Justin Timberlake. Best song on the album, hands down, is "Bounce." Every song is remember for its on individuality, sound, and feeling it provokes. I highly await their second studio LP.
I highly recommend the studio EP "Lady Luck." Also check out their "Disturbia" cover! Simply incredible twist on an already great song. They can also be seen on "Rock Band" video game with "One of THOSE Nights" (alternate version) and "Bounce." Instrumentation A Lyrics A+ Structure A Timbre A Production A+ OVERALL A |
