Better with Age,
By
This review is from: Whisper to the Wild Water (Audio CD)
I'd have to say Maire's done it again. Her newest album, Whisper to the Wild Water, is, I think, her best solo album she has out so far. Filled with wonderful Irish melodies and haunting lyrics Maire mixes contemporary beats with the traditional Gaelic and Irish instruments (ulinean pipes, Irish harp, etc.) which has made her famous. She blends her christianity in so well it appeals to both non-christians and christians. The lyrics and music mix well with the powerful opening track, Follow the Word, to the lovely prayer, Peacemaker with her son, Paul, on it, and the deeply moving Ageless Messengers, Maire has gotten better with age. I recomend this to any Clannad or Enya fan or someone who just likes music. Whisper to the Wild Water is deeply moving and I can't wait until Maire comes out with her next album.

A must for your cd collection!,

Maire Brennan keeps getting better and better. The angelic voice, lush harmonies and celtic rythms make this a stand-out album. Maire's spiritual awakening has given her a peace that flows from her music and wraps the listener like a warm blanket. The only thing that could have improved this album would have been the inclusion of Ciaran, Noel, and Padraig (the other members of Clannad)and their soothing harmonies. Lets hope that the inclusion of Maire's son Paul means that the Brennan tradition will live on for years to come.

This CD is a must have for those of you out there that love Celtic music with a strong Christian message. This album highlights the difference between Celtic & New Age music. Well done Maire keep up the good work. Her son introducing peacemaker is a real blessing and i lathair De(In God's presence). blew me away. Follow the word says it all.

The beauty of Maire's voice and wonderful musical creation make this album a real treasure. Her songs of hope are inspiring. This album makes me want to learn the Irish language. Easily a masterpiece of Christian music, Maire's love for her saviour is laced throughout. Clannad fans will love it as well. Thank You, Maire!

Where I Stand is a wonderful piece of music,

I listen to a wide variety of music...VERY wide. I have listened to Maire's work for many years, and that of her family's band Clannad. I have always liked her first self-titled release in particular--a wonderful combination of cross-cultural sounds, beautiful melodies, and challenging rhythms (not to mention her harp). Her shift into almost exclusively Christian based music is interesting, but listen to this disc whether you are a Christian or not. The musicianship and production are wonderful, but NOT overly lush in a New Age sort of way. There are some pieces on this CD that don't appeal to my ear, but really, it's a matter of taste. In particular, Where I Stand is a remarkable musical work: Maire's voice, the instrumentation, the lyrics and melody are magnificent--it's absorbing. The message is inspirational, but in some sense, it applies to all people of all races and beliefs--things more important than ourselves. A beautiful CD.

Gospel music - Maire Brennan's true talent !,

I started out listening to Enya.I never heard any music of Clannad or Maire brennan. One day I thought if Enya is this good what does her sister sound like? I listened to some samples and liked what I heard.Today I have several CDs of Clanned and Maire Brennan, and this one of them. Her regular music is a bit too jazzy for my taste but NOBODY can touch her gospel albums. She is ,in my opinion, one of the great talents of gospel music. If you like gospel music then you will wont to get this album.Another one that I would recommend is-PERFECT TIME.Both CDS have some beautiful songs on them. Her voice is different enough from Enya that you can tell they are different singers but both girls have beautiful voices and I enjoy listening to both of them. The bottom line-THOSE BRENNAN GALS SURE CAN SING!!!

Brushed Silver...,

...is the best term I can think of when describing Maire's voice. The words "husky" or "smoky" don't seem to do it justice. My collection of Maire and Clannad goes back to my LP album, 'Dulaman'.'Whisper' does not dissappoint the enthusiast. In fact, I think she has revived some of her earlier qualities that may have waned in the mid-to-late eighties. The Christian thematic undertones do not compromise the uniqueness of her music that can at once be called primal, Celtic, modern, and spiritual. Hers is a style she can truly claim as her own. I will always consider Maire Brennan as the pioneer and master of Modern Celtic music, in her own genre equalling Joni Mitchell in significance (but not in scale), and as with Joni, her albums can differ vastly one from the next. Less well-known than her sister Enya, Maire is nonetheless a much more important figure in the flow of musical history. Recommended.

How I discovered this great artist.,

I first heard of Maire when I got the "Back To Titanic" soundtrack. I loved the song and I really loved her voice.I started to become very interested in her. A few months later, I learned she was coming to my hometown to perform in concert. I went to that concert and gosh, that music really struck me! It was so ethereal, enchanting, angelic, and magical! I have never heard an artist who did music more poignant! Never! I have listened to many an artist of almost every genre of music and no one does music this touching! I got this album and whenever I listen to it, I feel so touched. If you don't listen to Maire, you will be missing out on so much.

Maire outdoes herself and her little sister,
By A Customer
This review is from: Whisper to the Wild Water (Audio CD)
Maire Brennan's album is the one the Moody Blues should have made, combining sophisticated technology with megaharmonies, and most importantly, spiritual message. Each song is a superb arrangement of melodies that often turn like a spiraling Celtic design and take you somewhere you never expected to go. Each of Maire's albums has been wonderful but she has finally surpassed Enya in sophistication and beauty. Little sister is going to have to try hard to beat this one. Let's hear it for the eldest girl in the clannad.
