essential 1920's Americana,

"Whispering" sounds very much from the era it was recorded. The Paul Whiteman Orchestra's recording plays counter to what was happening in America at the time. Whiteman was part of an effort to "civilize" jazz. Regardless of avoiding any and all improvisation, it's the even-tempered performance that makes it interesting.
