Whispers of the earth is filled with humorous poems that can delight the senses of anybody that reads them. The book contains a rare insight of everyday life though the eyes of a very talented poet. It also contains some poems that I find to be insperational and worth reading again and again.. I enjoyed "Whispers of the Earth and would highly recommend reading it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Homespun poetry, September 22, 2004
This review is from: Whispers Of The Earth - Original Poetry of Jim Garman (Paperback)
Jim Garman's Whispers of the Earth is an enjoyable collection of homespun rhymes and doggerel. Combining keen observation with a dry sense of humour, Garman's poems have something of a Will Rogers quality to them, when taken as a whole.

The author is known as Rapid-Fire, for his ability to produce poems on a variety of subjects in quick time. But, there are times when the reader may wish the author had taken more care, and shed more light on his subjects.

Amongst the quickly scribed verses, 'Halloween (a Sestina)' stands out from all the rest in care of formal composition.

What the others lack in formal construction, they can make up for in imagination and delight. Subjects of poems range from a daughters first date, to Frankenstein, the Wolfman, and Godzilla running amuck in a china shop.

Overall, I would give this book 3 stars, and it should appeal to many readers of light verse.
