Book Description

WHISPERS OF A LEGEND, VOLUME I
A semi-finalist in THE KINDLE BOOK REVIEW'S BEST SCIT-FI/FANTASY OF 2012!

Whispers of a Legend saga: Kela Calledwdele was born with a destiny, a Euchoun with only one purpose in life...to protect. Torn between two worlds, Kela soon discovers she is the hope of both. Now she must find the courage to face the destiny fate has dictated to her.

Kela has always known what path in life she would follow. She was born a Euchoun. Half Witheleghean, a passive peaceful race where magic runs freely and the other half, Sordarin, a valiant warrior race of hawkmen who rule the sky, she knows well her parents gave the ultimate sacrifice to give her a chance to live. Yet, in so doing, they have left Kela unprepared to face the dangers that await her. Her instincts are to protect and in this she does, but in so doing it leads her into a world where she knows not whom to trust. In time her power matures and grows stronger when she bonds with a Sordarin warrior, Cono. She learns well why she holds the power. An evil as no other before, Asmeodai, has emerged but all is not what it seems as a dark cloak encompasses her family. Betrayal, distrust, treachery leaves Kela alone. She is torn by her desire for Cono and the purpose, the path, she has been given to follow. And when another emerges within her world, one who seemly wants only to help her along her path, she is pulled further away from her Sordarin.

Shadows of the Past, Book One of the Whispers of a Legend is the first in nine installments of the saga. It is a journey of a young woman’s battle to embrace her destiny. Whispers of a Legend follows Kela along this conflicting path, where as a young woman unsure of her ability and her confidence in facing the challenges before her to where she emerges as a strong leader who learns to lean upon her own strength, to stand not behind, but side by side with her warrior.

The Legend Continues...
Whispers of a Legend, Part Four-Time of the Nuxvenom!

TIME OF THE NUXVENOM

The Nuxvenom—the time declared by the Arachindaens for their ascension to power…the time of their rule…the time for the annihilation of all who do not submit to their authority. Over the years, the Sordarins have slept well secure in the knowledge that the Great One guards over them and protects them from this Nuxvenom. Now, though, our world has once more been targeted; Asmeodai’s evil looms on the horizon and fear lives in the hearts of the Sordarins for our very existence is threatened.
I, Kela Calledwdele, have been trained for one purpose—to protect my people from this evil threat of Asmeodai. I did not ask for this, but have embraced my destiny. The path before me has never been easy, nor do I expect my tribulations to lessen as I continue my journey, but I hold to this destiny for I hold to my faith in the Great One.

With the acknowledgement as King Edulf’s granddaughter, Kela is swept into a world strange to her. Moreover, Kela discovers the world she now walks harbors its own dangers. For not only does Kela face the looming threat of the evil Cyaika and Arachindaens, she is forced to confront deception and and betrayal from within her own ranks. Never have the stakes been greater—never has her world faced a greater danger—never has more been asked of the Euchoun. The time of the Nuxvenom is now!

5.0 out of 5 stars It's a great read! November 11, 2011

Whispers of a Legend - Carrie James Haynes

I loved the characters in this story and the conflicts kept me intrigued enough to keep turning the pages. Kela, Euchoun, a protector of warriors, is a fearless young miss - a Sordarin - who grabs your heart right from the start. As a small child, her family- betrayed by their own - send the children - baby Sareta, young Falco and Kela - to safety in the protection of an old warrior Turstan and a nanny Gunilda. Years pass until one day, after a short battle where Kela defends her family against warriors sent by her own people; Kela finds that her special powers have increased. The children return home to their family's castle in the land of Scarladin to meet their grandfather who is king. He orders a ceremony to be held where he acknowledges Kela's brother as heir and her sister as the court's beloved, but in Kela's case he imprisons her instead. Years spent in the forbidden forest befriended only by her teacher and another who has similar powers, she waits to be recalled. It takes a war for that to happen. Finally she has the chance to show courage and try to win the affection of her grandfather. While on the mission, she not only bonds with a wonderful man and falls in love, but she excels in bravery, saving the land. Unfortunately, her grandfather holding an unknown transgression against her banishes her once again.
This is the debut book for Ms. Haynes, and because of this reason, I felt justified in giving her 5 stars in spite of some editing problems that I just ignored as I got caught up in the story.

This book had me captivated from the very beginning! Kela and her family are fun to get to know and full of excitement! Carrie J Haynes sweeps us into their tormented world, getting us to love them and want to protect them. I can't wait to see what the rest of this series has in store for the Sordarins and Witheleghans!

5.0 out of 5 stars Waiting for the nest installment of this series! October 31, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I love a story so well-crafted as to suck me in from page one and keep me rivoted, so that when I reach the end, I feel a tinge of regret the story's over. Ms. Haynes gives her readers an opening scene that pulls one in for the emotional, romantic and danger-filled ride. This is in many ways a coming of age story with a female bent, rather than the typical male coming of age story. Kela develops and grows in an admirable, satisfying manner. Cona will make you sigh. These are the kind of characters one loves to cheer for, so much so that I can't wait for her next installment in this series. Simply loved it!

5.0 out of 5 stars A rollicking fantasy romp! October 29, 2011
By Brenda
Format:Kindle Edition
Carrie creates a world full of mystery and magic. Her characters are endearing and complicated. I find Kela, the heroine, most intriguing because she is at once a lovely feminine woman but born to be a warrior. And she has to fight for recognition of her destiny in a world where women aren't allowed to be that strong. All women will cheer for her. Cono, the winged warrior is a luscious hero. Part One was a satisfying read and at the same time left me anxious to read Part Two.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting and intriguing story October 28, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Whispers Of A Legend (part one) Carrie James Haynes

The tension was palpable from the first few lines of this intriguing story as the heroine Kela, comes to terms with the loss of her parents and the only life she has ever known.

Kela was born a Euchoun, destined to become a mighty warrior who would save her people the Sordarins.

Hidden away and guarded for many years Kela, her brother Falco and sister Sareta, are finally reunited with their grandfather, King Edulf of Scarladin, supreme ruler of the Sordarins, but things don't turn out as expected for them. Whilst Falco and Sareta are welcomed with open arms, Kela is banished from her grandfather's kingdom and lives in exile in a haunted forest.
I wouldn't say this was exactly a romance in the usual sense, but it does have a romantic theme in the form of a handsome, brave warrior Cono, who wins Kela's heart.
This is an exciting story full of wonderfully written battle scenes and acts of magic. It will leave you eager to read part 2.

3.0 out of 5 stars Lack of editing ruined a good read February 8, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have come to expect poor editing in kindle books and usually just go on but this one takes the cake. It's hard to believe someone with the creativity to write this story could have let it be published with so many grammatical errors. At first I hoped she was trying to create a different "voice"/language/whatever. However, when one must stop in almost every paragraph to mentally rearrange, take out, or put in words for a sentence to make sense that is really sloppy writing and editing.

All of that being said, I liked the story idea and the characters; though some more in-depth development of the characters and description of locals would benefit the story. I am still planning to read the second installment which really should have been part of the original book. Obviously the free 1st half pulls me enough to buy the second "book".
