Book Description

Vol. I
When Evie Parker meets Lucas Spencer she begins to feel hope again. Lately she's been going through life in a fog and Lucas is all about teaching her how to have fun again. For the first time since the accident she knows what it means to be happy.

So who cares if Lucas is a little odd. It isn't that strange that she's never met his parents, or that teachers never seem to notice when he's late for class. Evie tries not to care, but on top of all his peculiar behavior she's been feeling kind of sick lately-- ever since she met Lucas actually.

When Lucas decides it is time to come clean with all his secrets Evie has to make some hard decisions.

Vol. II
All Evie wants is a little bit of normal in her life-- is that really too much to ask?

Lucas isn't normal, but he makes her happy. That should count for something. Evie thinks she can find a balance that will let her be normal and also be with him.

Of course she hadn't counted on adding his family into the mix, or his ex-girlfriend.

Life with an elf is never boring.

Lucas and Evie were finally at a place where Evie was comfortable with her mix of normal human teenager and fantastical elf boyfriend. Then she went and got herself crushed by a tree.

Evie wakes up with a whole lot of extra issues to deal with. Not the least of which is a trip inside the Veil to see Lucas's home. She never would have agreed to go if she'd known she was going to have her own secret to hide.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read May 31, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I read this whole collection last night and thoroughly enjoyed it! Would Love to see more books about these characters and what happens when the war between them and the enemy finally happens. Will they go back to faery and fight with their family, will they stay in the human realm, what happens when the family realizes that he turned her from human to elfin? Many many scenarios that could happen and would love to see what does!!!!!!!!!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Mostly good... March 25, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The overall story was good and kept me interested in reading but there were parts I didn't love too. First, it was a bit slow. Sometimes the author dwelled a bit too much on a moment and it slowed down the story. Second, so many of Evie's initial problems are self-inflicted that she comes off (in my book) as a bit of a drama queen. Third, and this may not be a popular opinion, but sometimes Lucas gushed a bit too much over Evie. It kind of made her own sentiments seem cold by comparison and it made his feelings appear more like infatuation than love. Finally, it leaves off on a cliffhanger with very little if any resolution. I have to believe that the author intends to write at least a couple more volumes because it got really interesting toward the end and left all kinds of unresolved issues. I look forward to reading any future volumes if ever they are published.

4.0 out of 5 stars PetRead November 4, 2012

(This review is also posted in goodreads.) Free e-books, and some pricey ones for that matter, don't guarantee a good read, so I was kind of worried at the start of this story. Thank goodness it went beyond the usual boy-meets-girl and there's something fishy going-on plot. With the exception of some typo errors and a few disorienting scene & time transitions, the story was entertaining and satisfying enough that I didn't have any questions to ask by the end of the story but this --when's the next book?

Orphaned at 16, Evie is now living with an unsympathetic Grandma at Benair Falls. If there's one thing she likes about that, it's she's always left on her own, and she is close to a park with access to wooded hiking trails. This is where she meets Lucas who, to Evie's surprise, is also a new student in Benair High. From there, I start to wonder with Evie what kind of "not normal" Lucas is, especially when a series of little and not so little "not normal" things are happening whenever Lucas is around.

Lucas & Evie are characters I feel eager to follow in a story that unfolds fast but unhurried. The world they inhabit is not hard at all to imagine, thanks to the author's descriptive style and language. The most distinct scene for me is Lucas' confession, of course. I suspected he was the e.t. kind (!!!) so it bowled me over to learn otherwise, Another visible moment for me is when Evie and her companions first crossed The Veil. It was adeptly depicted that I can easily picture and imagine how it felt like to go through Faery world from the Human world. YES, it's another fairy story, BUT somehow I prefer this not magical but scientific interpretation of the Faery World where Lucas is the son of the Great Lord of the elfin race. In 3 volumes, Evie goes through a lot since loosing her parents, and the storyline just keeps getting better in each. Well done!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Book You Can't Put Down September 19, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
A teenage girl meets boy. Heard it before? Well, how about the part where he is an elf? Not, the Santa Clause elf. That would be weird, but elfkin. This is a book about Evie who is trudging through life after the death of her parents. She meets the perfect boy, but he turns out to be more than she had thought. Evie's life is about to change as she discovers a whole new world.

First off, I have to say that I couldn't put the book down. The characters and the story line are great. There were a few scenes within the book that I felt could have been developed further, but then I'd have to still be reading it. That is a good thing. These characters are not untouchable. The reader can easily relate to them.

The relationship between Evie and Lucas is very intense with the author doing a great job in keeping it perfectly written for the young adult crowd. The physical attraction between the characters is strong, but nothing explicit is ever said or described.

There is no foul language. Fighting is done with minimum description of blood and gore. I was very impressed with how Ms. Dell was able to convey feelings and describe the actions without being too descriptive. She let the imagination of the reader take hold which I love.

If you like paranormal and/or young adult, this is a book I think you need to check out. It is clean. It has characters that suck you in. A great read. Whispers in the Woods will have you wanting more.
