It was very short, but it had warmth, a good mystery, some very believable characters, some humour, some intrigue and even danger, and a couple of red herrings. The explanation was very plausible, and all the characters likeable.

Looking for something to read on the plane, in the waiting room, or while little princess finishes gymnastics? Or are you after a book you can read and finish in the same session. Then buy this book. It is a perfect little mystery to read in one sitting. The story line flows nicely, and the development of characters executed skillfully (no pun intended) Any of the characters could have "done it". The reader is constantly theorizing, tossing out characters, deciding in our own mind who did it, only to have it tossed again, after a new development in the story. I do feel Cheryl's writing style has grown and become more intense since Black Diamond Death. This is a great tale of intrigue before the release of "I Have a Secret" of the Sloane Monroe series. I am a fan!!!

Since I admire people who take a risk in putting their works out there, I make it a point not to write negative reviews, but I must make an exception for this one primarily because of all the positive reviews of a story that I found to be so sloppy. The characters were flat and phony, the plot and murderer predictable, and the police procedures dumb. The author must never have read or watched any good police dramas to have so little idea about law or proper procedure. I quit listing things that were hokey, senseless, and stupid since the task quickly became overwhelming. The stupidity of the police was, however, eclipsed by the stupidity of the civilians. I almost rolled off my chair when the "smart" heroine was depicted as her high school valedictorian. I guess that could happen if the school's average IQ was 70 and the heroine's was 71. The writing was loaded with misused words and grammatical errors. People made "latch-ditch" efforts and "glossed" around the room, but I guess that is because they were too "unorganized" to wonder about "what lied beneath."

This short mystery had me guessing from the beginning and changing my mind over and over again as the plot thickened. A thrilling read that I couldn't get enough of!
