4.0 out of 5 stars pro 3450
This unit works great if your primary concern is a hidden system. There are other conventional units that outperform it of course. I like the outside temp sensor and am using it to monitor my intake air temp.I also added a second laser detector so I have them front & rear but am disappointed I can't add a radar antenna to the rear like the old model.

1.0 out of 5 stars Weak Detector
I wanted a remote detector but as the saying goes "you get what you pay for." This thing would probably be amazing if we were 15 years in the past. Overall installation was easy and quick. I mounted it in the uppermost part of the grill with a clear view and made sure it was perfectly facing forward. Powered it up, turned pop off and x-band off and away I went...

5.0 out of 5 stars 3 different cars - works great!, September 14, 2009
This review is from: Whistler Pro-3450 Remote Installation Radar Detector (Electronics)
I just upgraded to another BMW and of course bought me another Whistler Pro3450. Having it installed in the same place as the others, the receiver right below the license plate. The indicator will be to the left of the steering column right over the parking brake release. Can't see it from either door, so just a push of a button and it stays silent in case you need it to be. Other detectors claim 3 - 5 mile detection. Who cares, I want to have good detection within a 1/2 mile on the freeway and a 1/4 mile for city driving, that's when it's most important.

The Whistler is a solid unit that lasts for a long time. I have mine set in City 2 mode and that works best for false alarms. I'm not a speedy driver, but some times you are over the limit and it's nice to have a detector that will let you know of a spreed trap. This is my 3rd unit and I'm picky what I buy. I do my research and get the best for the money. No suction cups or laying on the dash, this unit is remote which means the receiver is located outside the car and is connected to the indicator inside the car. Clean to the sight, soft chirp or louder if needed, and the light can also be dimmed for night driving. That's my .02

If you want a reliable radar detector that does not sit on your dashboard or stick to your windshield and does not cost an arm and a leg, this is it. You need to be a little bit handy to install it. It is your basic remote detector, but gets the job done. I have used this product as well as other Whistler products for many years with no complaints.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Unit!, August 2, 2010

It takes some patience and a bit of skill and time to install it carefully, especially the first time around. Installation was helped by very responsive technical support. My emails were responded in hours and overall customer service was very good. After installation is done, 3450 is pleasant to look and work with. Antenna is totally out of sight behind the plastic grill. Display unit is tacked neatly on the left side beneath the steering wheel, invisible to any friendly officer standing outside of the vehicle. Black color of the display unit blends perfectly with my vehicle's interior and there no visible wires. I only used it for a few days, but during couple of longer drives this unit warned me ahead of time of every speed trap I passed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good value, March 31, 2010

This is the second Whistler remote radar detector I've owned, with the first one from 2004, and they haven't changed much at all, except for a few minor improvements with the screen being able to be turned for various mounting positions. I like this detector. It seems to work better than my Cobra remote on another car, and I really like the outdoor air temperature sensor and battery voltage read from the screen. I like it's compactness, especially important for the display and it's mounting ability, as open locations in dashes on modern cars are tough to find and sometimes to get to as well. There are some changes I would like. Even on it's City modes, which are supposed to block out more false alarms, it still has many false alarms. Secondly, the new blue screen is very hard to read except at night; any stray sunlight blows it out. Finally, the laser detector needs more mounting options. Trying to aim it front and back is very tough. This could be easily solved with more mounting options, like lenses for both front and back on all sides and a mount that can click into the top AND bottom AND side instead of only the top. They designed this to be mounted onto the windshield and I don't like anything mounted to the windshield, so I mount it to the rear view mirror mount. Also, the display itself could benefit from being smaller, as well as the wire plugs, as they can be a pain to run thru the firewall and find ample room in a dash to mount. Finally, it would be nice if it could be programmed to read the battery voltage at start up and every so many seconds, with temperature the rest of the the time, instead of only one and having to remember which button to push for two seconds to change from one to the other. Overall, it is a good product, with good detection, and good mounting options, especially for the price. Better mounting options, programmable options, and false detection avoidance would greatly improve this good value product even more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works like magic, March 13, 2011

Installed this detector a day before a trip through Washington into Portland Oregon. On both the way up and back this detector proved to be very sensitive on highway mode. in fact i though it was just going mad the first time it went off! I was Roughly a mile away and couldn't see any other cars ........ the cop was hiding on the over pass, went on it to get gas and had a bit of a startle. But none the less this works wonders for the radar detector.

The one bad ....... every thing has to have it.

The laser detector doesn't work on mine, now im sure there are a lot that do, but mine isn't connected any more. The laser detector goes off randomly, it really odd. I went to a local farm that is know for no one to be on it and sure it enough i parked my car on the side of the road and with in 10 min it said i was getting laser-ed, so unless farmer john got a laser pointer i think it may be broken. PS this was at night time, idk why though maybe it some uv ray's or something.

All in All, im in love with it and have recommended it to a lot of people, and will continue too!

Installation was pretty straight forward. This detector has saved me from many tickets, but does get falsed by laser cruise controls and other detectors.

5.0 out of 5 stars Saved me ten times what it cost, January 7, 2012

I bought this radar detector in October of 2004. It is now January 2012 and this thing still saves me money. I drive regularly from Long Island NY to the mountains in PA and driving through NJ is not easy. I am not a speedster AT ALL but driving 55 or 65 is a joke. There are 18 wheelers doing 90 because they warn each other where the smokeys are on their CB radios. I myself just try to avoid the tailgaters so I set me cruise control to the flow of all the rest of the traffic... I'm a center lane driver and I like it.

This thing has saved me dozens of tickets a year... too many times to count. My only complaint is I purchased the voice module and it is tinny sounding. It eventually stopped working for some reason.

I like having this unit because it is hidden from sight (you don't have to have it in the windsheild like the others). This is important if you park on the street often. Theives will break your window if the see a suction cup mount in the window.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works well but mod needed, December 21, 2011
This review is from: Whistler Pro-3450 Remote Installation Radar Detector (Electronics)
Installed in Porsche 996 but needed several adjustments to get it working correctly. Once done, it works well and I like the discrete feature.

The main issue was the line that goes from the radar unit to the remote display. The male/female plug went bad only after a month or so......error messages all the time. Ended up cutting and soldering the three very thing lines and that took care of the problem. The other is the installation of the radar unit. The supplied brackets really didn't fit anywhere. Made a makeshift bracket and installed behind the bumper which was accessible by removing the headlight unit. The laser adapter was useless; read somewhere that the laser is targeted at the license plate and the adapter is to be installed only inside. That's it. Thinking about installing a second unit in the other car.

1.0 out of 5 stars Weak Detector, May 5, 2011

I wanted a remote detector but as the saying goes "you get what you pay for." This thing would probably be amazing if we were 15 years in the past. Overall installation was easy and quick. I mounted it in the uppermost part of the grill with a clear view and made sure it was perfectly facing forward. Powered it up, turned pop off and x-band off and away I went.

The good:
It has a temperature sensor + voltage meter
It is a remote detector so it can be easily hidden/concealed.

The Bad:
Detection range is terrible. Ka-Band accounts for at least 75% of all police encounters and it severely lacks in these bands. I can see the cop before it goes off.
Ran several tests and my 7 year old Bel V940 stomps it in every band by 10 fold.
There is an X & K Band confusion where if you turn off X-band and go by an X-band source the detector will display K-band instead. Even the newest models suffer from this.
You cannot turn off VG-2 cloaking and it will go off at random and power down.

Will never purchase a Whistler product again.

I'm updating as you do get what you pay for honestly. I own a 7 year old "S7" horn V940, an "M4" horn V995, and this Pro-3450. The only thing pro about it is disappointing you. Buy a windshield mounted detector as it can be placed higher for superior range/visibility/sensitivity at a fraction of the cost. It is sad to say but the 7 year old V940 beats all of them on every band. Do your research please! Don't consult just one website or a biased website. Sign up to a radar detector forum, ask questions, and watch videos on the " "tube since Amazon auto deletes links. I'm not sure how these people who reviewed before me are giving it such high ratings. I can only draw the conclusion that they work for Whistler. V1, Escort, Beltronics. Stick to those ones. Inform yourself on the features, driving terrain, band encounters, false encounters, and above all stay away from Cobra as they leak so much they set Ka-Band off on every other decent detector within a 100ft radius. Look it up if you are in disbelief.

Yes it can detect X-Band (which is virtually extinct except for parts of NJ) and K-Band OK (again, going extinct) but like I said before Ka-Band is the new technology and as stated is at least 75% of encounters. Police are also trained to use Instant On which if you are not familiar is a feature where by the radar remains in stand by (like a loaded gun) and when they see you they push the button and you are screwed unless you have a decent sensitive detector that detects it from a car ahead of you.
