Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description The Whistler Pro-68 offers 360-degree, total-band protection, alerting you to laser, radar, VG-2 and safety radar bands. The brilliant blue numeric icon display is easy to read no matter the time of day, and competitive features like City/Highway modes, Quiet and Auto Quiet modes, or Whistler's own 'Stay Alert' feature make it a solid choice for a little extra defense behind the wheel.

Filter Mode
There are times when a radar detector can emit the same frequency as police radar and can cause your detector to falsely alarm. Sometimes a detector can display a signal when picking up another radar detector in vehicle close by. The Whistler Filter Mode checks the signal to verify if it's a legitimate police radar or a false alert from another detector.

INTELLICORD Ready
Add the Whistler INTELLICORD and you'll be able to remotely control the radar detector in settings such as power on/off, city modes, dim/dark and quiet/auto quiet with a simple press of a button.

Patented POP Mode Detection
There are new guns out there that operate just like the instant-on guns of the past but with a very tough new twist--POP mode! This new gun is a normal K and Ka band radar gun detectable by most radar detectors made in the past 30 years until it's in POP mode. When the gun is in POP Mode and activated, a brief burst of energy, less than 1/15 of a second, is transmitted and the vehicle's speed is quickly acquired. A detector without POP Mode detection capability cannot respond to this brief transmission. All PRO Series have POP mode detection capabilities.

Twin Alert Periscope
Whistler's new Twin Alert Periscope provides an added attention getting visual alert. The two extra LEDs flash on and off when the unit alarms to provide a unique visual alert.

3 City Modes/Highway Mode
Highway mode provides full audio and visual warning of laser/radar systems while maintaining full sensitivity. Highway mode is the default setting of all Whistler's laser/radar detectors. City mode helps reduce the annoyance of automatic door openers and burglar alarm alerts by providing an initial alert (same distance as Highway Mode) then remaining quiet unless the signal strength becomes very strong. When the signal increases the unit will alert briefly to notify you of the change in signal strength.

Stay Alert
The Stay Alert feature is designed to test a driver's alertness. Within 30 to 60 seconds after the feature is engaged an alert is sounded; to show alertness, the driver must press the volume, city or the mute button within 3-5 seconds. If a button is pressed within 3-5 seconds, the cycle is repeated. If a button was not pressed within 3-5 seconds the unit alarms at full volume and the display shows an unique visual alert.

Quiet/Auto Quiet Modes
Pressing QUIET before a signal is detected engages Auto Quiet Mode, which automatically reduces the audio level after the initial warning to a low audio level setting. Pressing QUIET during a radar/laser encounter silences audio alerts, while allowing visual alerts to keep you informed.

Alert Priority
When two or more signals are received at the same time, the alert priority is: Laser, VG-2, Speed Radar, Safety Radar.

Example: If X band is alerting, then suddenly a VG-2 signal is detected, the VG-2 warning will override the X band alert.

Vehicle Battery Saver Mode
The Vehicle Battery Saver Mode automatically shuts off your detector within 3 hours if you forget to turn it off. The timer is reset if the detector is turned off, unplugged or any button is pressed before the 6 hours have expired. The detector will alert you with an audible and visual warning before it shuts off.

Safety Warning System--SWS
This relatively new radar is not for speed detection at all, it is used to keep you informed of highway safety. Transmitters are installed and programmed (for example: in emergency vehicles) to make you aware of possible situations that may require your attention, such as: ambulance vehicles that are moving or stationary, road hazards ahead, road construction delays or detours, etc.

4.0 out of 5 stars Whistlers Best Kept Secret, August 27, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Whistler Pro 68 Laser Radar Detector (Electronics)
Not a tech writer but here goes....
Received the Pro 68 ( yes...not the 78) and have had a few days of driving with it. I can only compare it to my Whistler Pro78/690 and 330.
Very nice looking unit. Display is bright and easy to read.
Programming includes the ability to turn on/off:
X Band
K Band
Ka Band
POP
SWS
VG2
and turn on and off an additional FILTER
of course the 3 City Bands with City2 being X turned off.
2 blue flashing periscope lights are also configurable to your own taste.
No Voice available.

Operationally it is very good. Picks up Ka as good as the Pro78 IMHO and real world experience. K band also. Picked up a C/O Ka from well over a mile and over two gently rolling hills. Ka again from a side street running 90degrees out from me....LEO was about 1000 yards down the side street and I was approximately 200 yards from the intersection when it went off....I saw him as I rolled up to the intersection. 1 K band from well over 1 1/2 miles...it was a radar trailer that tells you your speed.....Quiet as can be so far....in San Antonio it only "bleeped" on a Ka for a second...other than that is it is a very quiet detector. I am impressed. No laser so far.
It is rock solid in the mount and does not bounce around.
So far I have been running:
X OFF
POP OFF
VG2 OFF
SWS OFF
Filter ON
HIGHWAY MODE
It is very easy to read in the bright sunlight. Easy to hear. And has performed as well as my Pro 78 or 690. Michael and the boys at Whistler have done very well for a $85 detector in my book. This is a keeper.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent radar detector, March 17, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Whistler Pro 68 Laser Radar Detector (Electronics)
The Whistler Pro 68 Laser Radar Detector is very well constructed and easy to use. There are many options available to tweak the unit to your liking. I thought the periscope blinking blue was a very good way to alert you during the day but at night it was a distraction and I had other drivers peering into my car while on the highway. So, I turned off the periscope all together. The 3 city modes work well. The filter setting prevents other detectors nearby from false warnings; very handy!
One thing I would like Whistler R/D to change would be the audio alert for the KA band. It sounds very pleasant; a light little flutter. On the other hand, the X band audio alert is harsh! I would rather have the KA band alert be harsh as it would really get my attention as opposed to a light fluttering sound. Look through the manual thoroughly as there are many options available that you can set or disable. This is a very nice detector for the price point. I have no buyer's remorse!

This is the second Wistler Pro 68 Laser Radar Detector we bought. We returned the first one when it broke, but luckily while it was eligible for a full refund. So, we got another one, however, this one also "died" but fter the full refund date. We will now get only a partial refund for a defective item. It would seem that Amazon would grant us a full refund since this is the second one we are returning. I would NOT recommend this item for anyone's use. Dan
