Whistler Cruisader: Ultra-Mega-Fail,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Whistler Wireless In-Helmet Display for Cruisader Motorcycle Radar Detector (WIRELESSINHELMET) (Electronics)
I ordered the Whistler Cruisader, and also ordered this, the wireless heads-up display. Strangely enough, what arrived on my doorstep was a box with the complete Whistler Cruisader in it, and a couple of days later, another box with a complete Whistler Cruisader *and* the wireless heads-up display doo-dad.
Score! Until I installed the first one on my motorcycle the night before a week-long cross country trip. As I noted in my other review, despite testing the complete set on the bench, it failed after it was installed. As in utterly didn't turn on. Returning from my trip, I installed the second Whistler Cruisader and installed the heads-up doo-dad in my helmet. The very first time I went out on the road, it failed too. As others have noted in their reviews, the Whistler Cruisader is finicky and prone to a "Com Error" after installation. That's what happened to me, halfway through the trip. After seemingly working fine the first part of the day, after lunch it started reporting a Com Error. This made the wireless heads-up doo-dad blink very rapidly at full intensity right in front of my eyeball. This was pretty distracting. I tried turning the Cruisader and the heads-up display off, then back on, and they would work fine for about five minutes before reporting a Com Error again. This repeated all afternoon until I gave up, and left them both off so I could focus on riding. So this is why Amazon is blowing out the complete set with the Cruisader and the Heads-up display so cheap - it is utterly worthless. Oh, and the replacement battery: Not just any brand CR-2450 battery fits in the wireless heads-up display. I bought two different brands of batteries before I found one with the right diameter to actually fit inside the module. My recommendation: Do Not Buy! Spend the money on an Escort 8500 and get the Screamer sound module instead. 100% reliability out of the box, and the test-winning performance of an Escort. Final Verdict: If I could give this zero stars I would. Negative stars, in fact, for the time lost installing it, re-installing it, buying batteries that didn't fit, and finally giving up. Negative five stars. -* -* -* -* -*
