5.0 out of 5 stars "Put your big head down on the desk!!!"
Are you tired of the usual stand-up routines and are looking for somebody who speaks his mind--and can rage on with his bad self? Well, look no further because Lewis Black is the man for you. In the tradition of Bill Hicks and George Carlin, Black is one outstanding humorous commentator who has appealed to me very quickly. "The White Album" is a hilarious first album...

1.0 out of 5 stars If you think simply yelling about everything is funny
Terrible. A waste of money. This comedian just yells everything. Very similar to Sam Kinnison. If you liked Sam, you'll like Lewis. I prefer humor that requires a better sense of humor to think up. Just screaming 100% of the time isn't my idea of a funny act.

"The White Album" is a hilarious first album that gives you a taste of things to come.

Even though this is his first album (from what I know), the man has no problems with acting like a pro. His rants are hysterical and full of angry energy. He's one of the few comedians who is able to exhaust me from laughing so hard. It's great to have a social commentator on the comedy scene and it is a breeze to listen to his "take-no-prisoners" delivery. He rants about everything from the weather to IHOP; from Bill Clinton to the ozone; from the flu to Miami, and so much more. Black doesn't pull any punches with his act, as he is completely willing to bash anybody who deserves it and is never afraid to point out the laughable stupidity of others. And politicians---beware! He doesn't care which side you're on! He's a man who doesn't discriminate when it comes to pointing out absurdity in the political world.

I really loved listening to this album. While I don't consider this his best work, it is still such a joy to listen to. I'm actually afraid that the man is going to suffer from a stroke on stage one of these days due to the absolute intensity in his performance! His sarcasm ranges from subtle to hysterically outrageous. It's one of the many talents that shows on this very well constructed CD. A word of caution, though: Black isn't afraid to dish out the swear words. If you don't like comedians with foul mouths, then I advise you to keep away. And for the rest of us--ENJOY!

Lewis Black's "The White Album" is absolutely hilarious and shows the promise of a great comedian, as we would see him grow with his other albums, "The End of the Universe" and "Rules of Enragement." I really hope that he puts out more albums and continues with his well-crafted act. He's definitely a man who doesn't come short when it comes to a perfect delivery. I don't think we'll ever seen another comic who can duplicate what he does. An absolute classic. -Michael Crane

5.0 out of 5 stars Black's Best So Far, July 4, 2005
This review is from: The White Album (Audio CD)
'The White Album' is, at least in my opinion, Lewis Black's best album he has released yet. The man is dead-on with his opinions on everything from the dangers of suntan oil to the wonders of Nyquil. Black's delivery is great. People may complain that he screams too much and yes, maybe it is a little Kinison-like, but Black is definitely an original comic. You can actually hear the absolute astoundment in his voice at the stupid things in life that people tend to just accept without question.

The highlights of the album are many, but his bits about having to audition to play himself on a sitcom about himself is great. The bit about IHOP being his health club and the horse story that ensues is hysterical. His talk on the Clinton/Monica debacle is fabulous. And his readings from Arkansas newspaper clippings regarding some of the state's stranger citizens is very amusing as well.

From beginning to end, 'The White Album' is flat-out hilarious. Black is a very funny man who looks at life from a much different and much more cynical view than most. Not only does he make you laugh, but he makes you think as well. Not a whole lot of standup comics can do that.

5.0 out of 5 stars comedy genius, September 7, 2001

While it took Comedy Central to acknowledge this man's brilliance by putting him finally on the Daily Show (and that is one of the few things right that stupid network has done, they should be cursed from existence for cancelling the Upright Citizens Brigade), Lewis Black is one of the greatest, funniest, outspoken comics since George Carlin. And this CD includes some of his funniest material. Sure he curses a lot, but in Mr. Black's own words about this particular observation, "I don't give a sh-t!"

5.0 out of 5 stars Lewis at his best, but a word for the wise..., August 17, 2001

If you know Lewis Black and have seen his two half-hour stand up bits on Comedy Central you've heard approx. 50% of this CD as they were all made near the same time. Nevertheless, this is an EXTREMELY funny performance that, even though you'd know all the jokes, would turn your friends into Lewis fans in a second. The oh so cynical views of the everyday world around us just comes across so well with the anger and bitter delivery. If you EVER have a chance to see this guy live, do it! The stage presence this guy has just adds to the laughs but is totally left out on the CD. Just buy this CD and share it with all your friends!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lewis at his creative peak!, May 21, 2004
This review is from: The White Album (Audio CD)
This is a must-have for anybody who enjoys Lewis Black or enjoys comedy in general. Simply put- this album is a masterpiece. It's incredible how he comes up with material that borders on the 'ridiculous' side but somehow manages to seem believable. The "horse/college" joke is one of my favorites on the album. He tackles everything- the weather, politics, you name it.

And while his others albums are excellent, this album is about creativity and the diverse material and precense Lewis brings to the table. His 'angry' gimmick isn't as well-developed here as it is in his later albums but his immensely creative material is a nice trade.

So do yourself a favor and buy album!

5.0 out of 5 stars Blunt, Honest Comedy At Its Best, January 10, 2002

Lewis Black isn't the most well known comic in the world. His biggest claim to fame are his "Back in Black" segments on Comedy Central's Daily Show. It's a shame, really, for he's one of the best comics to come down the pike in a long, long time.

This CD proves it. Black's comic talent shines through all throughout this CD. His honest and incredibly blunt routine is uproariously funny... never once becoming boring or repetitious, a rarity in the world of stand-up comedy nowadays. Some particularly funny bits include his thoughts on Arkansas and how he feels about weather (and weather men like Willard Scott!).

A quick word of warning... Mr. Black doesn't pull any punches in his act. It's very blunt and his language can get quite explicit. If that sort of thing offends you, don't buy this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars LEWIS BLACK IN TOP FORM ON WHITE ALBUM CD, June 15, 2000

I've enjoyed Lewis Black on tv for quite a while now and was thrilled to learn he finally had a cd available! He is one of the best comedians on the comedy circuit and his skewed outlook on life and his frustrated delivery is the best since the late great Sam Kinison. After seeing Black on tv it's a real treat to finally hear him cut loose on this hilarious cd.He is part of the new generation of comics. After years of bland standup, guys like Lewis Black and Robert Schimmel are finally breathing new life into the comedy circuit. Black's new cd will have you laughing out loud from beginning to end and it's one that you will play often.Especially funny are his rants on weather men and Bill Clinton. Fire this cd up at your next party. You'll be glad you did! This guy will be around for years to come. I can't wait to see him live!

if you're into angry comedians, lewis black will deliver a lot more than you need, probably more than any sane pearson should hear. he is the personification of all the stresses in american society today, and he's not too shy about voicing it. if you are a little politically correct [wussy], or take offence easily, then stay clear, but if you love hearing a good verbal lashing, the white album will leave you breathless. nothings off limits with this guy, from politicians to southerners to the ozone, plus, he reveals the reason we get a brain anyrism. unless your a cadaver, there's no way you won't find yourself thoroughly entertained... and possibly partially soiled.
