5.0 out of 5 stars Discovering The Music of Zbigniew Preisner, July 27, 2003
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: White: Bande Originale Du Film (Audio CD)
This review refers to the CD Soundtrack "Trois Couleurs - Blanc"
Publisher: Editions MK2(Virgin Records)...

There are so many wonderful things to be said about Krzystof Kieslowski's "Three Colors Trilogy", not the least of which is the absolutely stirring music of his composer Zbigniew Preisner.Preisner is phenominal at capturing the story, the individual characters and the emotions portrayed.
"White" is the second in the trilogy. It is the story of Karol Karol(portrayed brillantly by Zbigniew Zamachowski), a pitiful man who is trying to win back the beautiful wife(Julie Delpy) who left him.It is drama, comedy, intrigue and romance all rolled into one great film and Preisner's music defines each scene perfectly. The music is recorded by "The String Sextet and The Zbigniew Preisner Light Orchestra" and Directed by Zbigniew Paleta.

From the opening with one single note hanging beautifully in the air, depicting the loneliness of our hero, to the light and airy Tango music as Karol devises his plans, the Light Orchestra and the solo sounds of a Clarinet(Jan Cielecki),an Oboe(Mariusz Pedzialek), and a Violin(Zbigniew Paleta), seem to tell the story. The hardship after the failed marriage, the return to his homeland in Poland, his plan of revenge, his wife's arrest all depicted wonderfully through this soundtrack.

There are 21 tracks, all fairly short(the longest is(2:27), and some may seem similiar to others, but each track flows into the next as the film flows from scene to scene. Included you will find "The Beginning", "Return to Poland", "Attempted Murder",the "Funeral Music","Dominque in Prison" and "The End".

The CD is a very good quality. It sounded great on the stereo, the music filled the room.

I have become a big fan of Preisner's compositions and especially the music from this trilogy. I went with "White" first because the CD seemed the hardest to be able to come by. If you are a fan of the films of Kieslowski and the "Musique Originale" of Preisner, you should grab this CD up while you can. Sometimes you can find a really good deal through the merchants...I did!

Relive the wonderful story or discover Preisner's brillant music for the first time. In either case, it is a most enjoyable experience....Laurie

4.0 out of 5 stars Great theme, April 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: White: Bande Originale Du Film (Audio CD)
I bought this soundtrack because I loved the theme to the movie. There are some great pieces, but as with some soundtracks, most tracks are variations on 3 or 4 main pieces, so it can be repetitive.
