Kelly James-Enger writes wonderful chick lit. Her first book was great and White Bikini Panties is another successful entry.

2.0 out of 5 stars Who wrote the back cover blurb?
Did that person actually read this book?

Green Melusine and I must be kindred spirits - I came here intending to make EXACTLY the same points! First of all, reading the back cover was what made up my mind to buy this book. It sounded like a fun and funny read about a young woman who tries to change her life and personality after she catches her boyfriend...

Kelly James-Enger writes wonderful chick lit. Her first book was great and White Bikini Panties is another successful entry.

What sets these books apart from alot of chick lit is that her characters are richly developed. While there is lots of humour, there is always a touch of seriousness that adds wonderfully to the mix. Also, there is always a "situation" in the book which the author chooses to resolve in a non-conform manner (Ethan and Jessie).

I love all the characters in this book and if I have a complaint is that Kelly James-Enger's books always feel too short for me. I am already looking forward to the next one.

Buy this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very enjoyable read!, January 14, 2005
This review is from: White Bikini Panties (Paperback)
The thing I like best about Kelly James-Enger as an author is her absolute candor and lack of pretense. She's unusually honest and real in her writing. The love relationships in this book, as well as the family and friend relationships, are very flawed and complicated, as in real life. Reading Kelly James-Enger's books is like talking to a close friend. She does a great job with dialog, and the characters are well developed and easy to relate to. She's also not afraid to tackle tough subjects like bulimia and infertility, and she portrays the emotions accurately and realistically. I would definitely recommend White Bikini Panties, as well as her first novel, Did You Get the Vibe. I look forward to reading the next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dealing With Life, December 29, 2004
By
This review is from: White Bikini Panties (Paperback)
Looking for a book that is easy to read, yet has enough substance to keep you interested? If so, Kelly James-Enger's White Bikini Panties is that book. Trina, the main character, is believable and likeable as we follow her through the fun and pressures of life as a young adult. How does she deal with her job as a writer for a kitchen gadget company in the suburbs, while living in the city, handle a cheating boyfriend, and withstand pressures from her family's demands? Simple- she changes her underwear and changes her life. If you are past this stage in your own life, it will bring back memories; if you are just entering this stage it will give you insight.
An enjoyable read that will leave you waiting for James-Enger's next work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love her style of writing!!, December 26, 2004
This review is from: White Bikini Panties (Paperback)
I really enjoyed this book! It was the first I've read of hers and am so happy that this book introduced me to her writng, her website, other books and endeavors!

I really enjoyed her book, Her main character Trina had a slighly sarcastic edge, and Enger pulled it off wonderfully, which, is not that easy to do.
Some of my favorite things about the book, are the way Trina dealt with the men and the way men reacted to her, classic real life reactions that don't come across a lot in the books, I've read
I liked the way the other aspects of her life surrounded her work, family and goals. It was just a great book, that lived up to its title, truly!! Hope to see more of her work!!

4.0 out of 5 stars If only your heart had an on/off switch?!?, March 9, 2005
This review is from: White Bikini Panties (Paperback)
White Bikini Panties (WBP) is about meeting he right guy, going on first dates, finding out how much baggage he has and deciding if you want to deal with it.

Trina is a senior writer at The Coddled Cook (think QVC meets Pampered Chef) that sells kitchen products. Trina's job is to inform consumers of new products and provide instructions on how to use.

Trina is the middle child of 2 sisters. Jessica (the older sister) is a beautiful & smart lawyer who is married to Ethan.
Missy is the baby sister who's major in college is TBD & doesn't have a care in the world. Trina has always felt like a "plain Jane" compared to her sisters. Never caring about her appearance & satisfied with wearing plain cotton bikini's.

Rick is Trina's boyfriend for almost 2 years who is an IT expert. Rick works long hours, so the time that they get to spend together watching E! True Hollywood Story and having wild sex is special.

Jane is Trina's best friend who reads Tarot cards. Over pasta & a bottle of wine, Jane tells Trina that big changes are coming her way. Being madly in love with Rick, Trina ponders the thought of taking their relationship to the next level.

Events occur between Trina & Rick *cough* and another person, but I won't reveal what happens and they split up. After two weeks, Trina decides that it's time to start dating again and the fastest way to get over Rick is to start with buying new underwear.

As Trina becomes a serial dater, she discovers white bumps on her "timberline" (I love that term) and convinces her OB that she must be seen ASAP!! You'll have to read for yourself what the "bumps" were. :-) That situation is guaranteed to make you LOL!

Trina's dating and getting on with her life by focusing on all the negative things that Rick used to do that drove her crazy. She's almost over him when she comes face to face with him one night. Why is it that just when you think you are almost over someone, you see them and that familiar flood coming crashing back?

WBP was fast, fun and provided lots of LOL moments that I think you will enjoy.

I'm looking forward to reading more from Kelly James-Enger.

5.0 out of 5 stars White Bikini Panties, February 19, 2005

This was a great read. The main character, Trina, was very likable and real. I felt like she was someone I would really get along with and enjoy being friends with during my twenties. Her dating escapades were juicy and entertaining {with a touch of kinkiness}, while her relationships with her family, friends and coworkers were funny and relatable. The book also touched on real issues that single and married couples face today that made this book a MUST READ!

I just loved this book as did all of my friends in my book club. I haven't read a book by Kelly James Enger that I haven't liked. I wish there were more. If you read this one you have to read, "Did You Get The Vibe."

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Chick Lit Tale to Curl Up With, November 27, 2004
This review is from: White Bikini Panties (Paperback)
White Bikini Panties by Kelly James-Enger had the ingredients of a good chick lit read: a likeable and less-than-perfect heroine with an adorable, smart and sweet boyfriend who she had just found cheating on her; a semi-good job with the requisite catty coworker and gay friend. It's the classic, original chick lit forumla, but does it work every time? Thankfully it did this time.

Trina is 28 years old and just living. When she finds her sweet, computer-obsessed boyfriend is found in his living room making out with another girl, she figures it's time to move on. Trina is understandably disappointed, but decides it is time to move on. So she does. First there is the irresistable Javier, who only seems to call her once in a blue moon. Then there is Pete, the "guy's guy" who seems to be pretty interesting after all, despite his initial impression; At the same time her job is going through a "reorganization" which could either land her a promotion or the ax. When she discovers a very unpleasant ailment that one of her boyfriends apparently gave her, she has to find out who is responsible.

Trina decides it's time to figure out who she is, where she is going, and who she wants.

Overall I enjoyed White Bikini Panties. It was well-written, engaging and had some likeable characters. However, there were a couple of times that I felt the story line kind of lagged and I was waiting for something to happen. While the book is good, it isn't outstandingly great. But White Bikini Panties will charm most chick lit fans. I do recommend it to readers who enjoy reading about women trying to find her way in life, get over an ex-boyfriend, and get ahead in her job.

5.0 out of 5 stars A magnet on my nightstand!, November 15, 2004
This review is from: White Bikini Panties (Paperback)
After reading James-Enger's first novel, "Did You Get the Vibe?," I was excited to read her second and it did not dissapoint. Just like her first book, this one was witty and thoughtful.

The main character is Trina, who's caught in the middle of almost everything in her life: Her family, friends, boyfriends and co-workers. She struggles with self-esteem issues that can so often plague young adulthood: too young for marriage but too old for casual flings. Many others can probably also identify with the emotions she encounters and can laugh at Trina's humorous response.

What's also entertaining about the book is the variety of sub-plots. Trina's sisters, friends and co-workers have struggles of their own, and Trina makes sacrifices to help them cope while she herself has troubles.

If you're looking to read something that's fun, fast and well-written, check out "White Bikini Panties."

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't Put It Down!!!!, November 14, 2004
By
This review is from: White Bikini Panties (Paperback)
I really enjoyed Kelly James-Engers first book, "Did You Get the Vibe?" and looked forward to reading this one, "White Bikini Panties." Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down! The book is about Trinia: career:a writer at kitchen trinket company; love life: her boyfriends cheats, and she decides to date for fun and she then think she's a ho (she's not); her family: her older sister asks her to do what?!?; and this book has so much more! I want to tell you all about it, but don't want to spoil it. The book is smart and funny. If you like Meg Cabot's the Boy Next Door, you'll love this book, if not even love it more! This book is very well-written! Share it with your girlfriends!
