Book Description

Urban Soul February 1, 2008
What would you do if you met a guy who adored you and possessed all of the qualities you've ever wanted in a man, but he didn't look like you had always dreamed? Thirty-seven-year-old family law attorney Bailey Gentry, an African American woman, found herself in such a dilemma. Exclusive and unwavering in her loyalty to black men, but still single, childless, with no prospect in sight, she begins to reassess if her longstanding "nothing but a black man will do" mantra has been a benefit or a detriment to her love life. A Box of White Chocolate is the hilarious story of one woman's tug-of-war after meeting her ideal man, a guy who is her total package, except for one factor--he is white. Filled with memorable characters and a surprising subplot, A Box of White Chocolate offers a view into the minds of black women who can't or won't exercise their options, at a time when black men are exercising theirs.

1.0 out of 5 stars AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL!, February 23, 2008

I had to make a point to log in to review this book. If I can stop one person from wasting their time then I've done my job! This book is AWFUL! The story is SLOW and jumbled (down right ClOGGED) with so much pointless information and storylines that I found myself skipping pages (which I make a point to never do!).

This is the story of Bailey who has no other desire in the world but to find a "good" black man. Yet she finds a great white man and she is torn about it. And let me tell you...she is soooooo annoying it's not even funny! While her "sista girl" attitude is funny and amusing at times (the way in which the book is written and speaks to the reader), the general book is annoying and frustrating. I would not waste a moment on this book. Even if I saw it at the public library for free I wouldn't recommend it. This is a terrible book with an AWFUL ending! Total disappointment, it had so much potential!

3.0 out of 5 stars A very unfulfilling ending, February 9, 2008
By
Yardy (Windsor CT) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Box Of White Chocolate (Urban Soul Presents) (Paperback)
While I understood the conflicts of the lead female in this book, I found her actions and the subsequent ending of this book quite unfulfilling. I don't always want a happy, cookie-cutter ending, but I want believability. The coincidences felt forced and I was let down.

2.0 out of 5 stars A Box of White Chocolate, February 17, 2008
This review is from: A Box Of White Chocolate (Urban Soul Presents) (Paperback)
I bought this book based on the title and story desription on the back of the book. I found myself wanting to rush to the good parts of the story only to find myself wading through a single woman's journey to no personal growth. I so wanted the author to start telling the story of other characters in the book, so that Bailey the main character could take the free time to grow up.
