5.0 out of 5 stars Hot White Chocolate...WOW!!!
I have never really enjoyed reading and I am currently trying to change that! It usually takes me quite a while to complete a book of any size, however, I read "A Box of White Chocolate" in about a day and a half! I simply could not put it down...always wanting to see what happens next! It didn't turn out like I thought it would but that being said, it was a wonderful...

I had to make a point to log in to review this book. If I can stop one person from wasting their time then I've done my job! This book is AWFUL! The story is SLOW and jumbled (down right ClOGGED) with so much pointless information and storylines that I found myself skipping pages (which I make a point to never do!).

This is the story of Bailey who has no other desire in the world but to find a "good" black man. Yet she finds a great white man and she is torn about it. And let me tell you...she is soooooo annoying it's not even funny! While her "sista girl" attitude is funny and amusing at times (the way in which the book is written and speaks to the reader), the general book is annoying and frustrating. I would not waste a moment on this book. Even if I saw it at the public library for free I wouldn't recommend it. This is a terrible book with an AWFUL ending! Total disappointment, it had so much potential!

3.0 out of 5 stars A very unfulfilling ending, February 9, 2008

While I understood the conflicts of the lead female in this book, I found her actions and the subsequent ending of this book quite unfulfilling. I don't always want a happy, cookie-cutter ending, but I want believability. The coincidences felt forced and I was let down.

2.0 out of 5 stars A Box of White Chocolate, February 17, 2008
This review is from: A Box Of White Chocolate (Urban Soul Presents) (Paperback)
I bought this book based on the title and story desription on the back of the book. I found myself wanting to rush to the good parts of the story only to find myself wading through a single woman's journey to no personal growth. I so wanted the author to start telling the story of other characters in the book, so that Bailey the main character could take the free time to grow up.

1.0 out of 5 stars The Story Of A Fool, February 21, 2008
This review is from: A Box Of White Chocolate (Urban Soul Presents) (Paperback)
I'm so happy that I did NOT spend any money buying this book. I got it from the library. Bailey was a fool at the start of this book and at the end of the book.

This book was absolutely horrible. The ending was terrible. I was cheated.By the cover, I thought it was going to be a good book. Please, please do not purchase this book. We are black women that love white boys and boys of other favors. I do not want to read about a black women that wants nothing but a black boy.

1.0 out of 5 stars A BOX OF MELTED CHOCOLATE, May 13, 2009
This review is from: A Box Of White Chocolate (Urban Soul Presents) (Paperback)
THIS BOOK STARTED OFF GOOD AND HAD ME INTERESTED. THEN I GET TO THE PART WHERE SHE IS TRYING TO DEAL WITH THE FACT THAT THE GUY SHE TRUELY LIKES IS NOT THE SAME COLOR AS HER. I THOUGHT SHE WAS GOING TO GET OVER THAT BECAUSE THEY COULD HAVE BEEN GOOD TOGETHER. I HAVE NEVER READ A BOOK THAT I WISH I COULD HAVE TAKEN BACK TO GET MY MONEY BACK I WAS SO MAD THAT I WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER BOOK BY THIS AUTHOR EVER. AND I AM AN AVIT I/R READER BUT THAT JUST MESSED UP MY WHOLE UNDERSTAND.

2.0 out of 5 stars A box of white chocolate..., November 12, 2008

This review is from: A Box Of White Chocolate (Urban Soul Presents) (Paperback)
A BOX OF WHITE CHOCOLATE is based on Bailey Gentry, a family law attorney faced with problems in the men department. These problems include her temporary standing with Tony, an Italian who possesses all of the qualities she desires except for one; he's not African-American.

Because of its lack of focus, I didn't particularly enjoy A BOX OF WHITE CHOCOLATE. Though I understand where the author was trying to go regarding Bailey's phobia of interracial relationships, certain things seemed to be out of place. For example, reading the title I was under the assumption this book was solely based on Bailey's interracial relationship, when indeed it's not the case. The beginning focused on several unsuccessful relationships before flashing back to how things went sour with this Tony character. Instead of sticking to interracial dating, the main focus of the story, the book was all over the place.

Additionally, the relationship between Bailey and Tony was bland, and a tad unrealistic. It didn't make sense for a woman to date a man for months, knowing she could never get past the skin color factor. Furthermore, from the lack of affection demonstrated by Bailey, I couldn't understand why Tony didn't notice something was wrong. A perfect example was Bailey insisting on double dating when they went out. In the real world, most adults prefer to spend time alone, not constantly double dating. It would have been nice to know what his family thought of him dating an African-American woman also. I would have also liked more interraction between Bailey and Tony's friends, including the roommate who was in an interracial relationship also.

In the end, I felt no connection between the characters and received absolutely no insight from A BOX OF WHITE CHOCOLATE. If you're looking for a novel with substance that deals with the serious complications interracial couples face in everyday life, then this is not for you.

Daamon really spoke the truth on many black females...if I didn't know better, I'd think a black female actually wrote this book!!! LOL!!! He really tells it like it is....so remember single ladies, don't be a fool like Bailey was!!! What you're looking for in a man may not come in the package you expect it to...LOL!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars haaaaaaated it!, April 28, 2008
This review is from: A Box Of White Chocolate (Urban Soul Presents) (Paperback)
I really try to give books a chance. And i made myself finish this book because like to finish what i start. I have to agree with other reviews in saying that there was pointless information and Bailey, i think if she was in front of me i would slap her. I love black men just like the next but come on. I'm happy the way it ended. I guess that was the best part.

1.0 out of 5 stars What were the publishers thinking?, April 5, 2008

This review is from: A Box Of White Chocolate (Urban Soul Presents) (Paperback)
There are some books that linger long after you have read them. This was one of those books but definitely not for the right reason. Not only did I want a refund, I was tempted to send an e-mail to the publisher(s) to ask what were they thinking! This book should have never been published! The premise was promising and Bailey was witty at times (and irritating at others) but the novel was most unfulfilling. By the end of the book, I hated Bailey and Tony! Most women who read romances actually want a ROMANCE. There was none in this book. I understand this is Daamon Speller's first novel. Let's hope his next book is an improvement, otherwise I do not see much success in the future for him in this genre.
