Editorial Reviews

Review

"In White Collar Crime Reconsidered, the world's leading authorities on the subject expand on Sutherland's concept of white-collar crime. They present the most compelling new scholarship as they take stock of the research and theory of the past fifty years . . . An exemplary research tool on the subject." --Law Books in Review

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting but not the most comprehensive book on white collar crime, December 29, 2010

This review is from: White-Collar Crime Reconsidered (Paperback)
I bought this book as required reading for a Masters degree class in White Collar Crime. The professor used it as a supplement to another text book which was much more informative than White-Collar Crime Reconsidered. WCCR is a collection of essays by different criminologists regarding various specific white collar crime cases. About four or five were quite interesting including one that detailed the S&L collapse and another that detailed the events that led up to the explosion of the Space Shuttle: Challenger in the 1980s, but overall, it's not an especially good or comprehensive book for someone who wants to understand the laws, motivations, deficiencies, or psychology of white collar criminals. In addition, the criminologists often reference theories that, unless I'd also been reading the other required book, I probably would not have understood as well. It's good for someone who has a previous understanding of white collar crime, but not ideal for someone who is interested in a more general overview of this type of crime or is interested in what makes white collar criminals do what they do.
