5.0 out of 5 stars Very Welcome Homecoming
Have to say at the get go, that I'm a little perplexed by some of the reviews - don't really know what some people were expecting - If you've really followed Kylie's career, you'd know that very little or no comments are made about her being problematic, Diva-like or prone to yelling and screaming. Have to say at the get go, that I'm a little perplexed by some of the reviews - don't really know what some people were expecting - If you've really followed Kylie's career, you'd know that very little or no comments are made about her being problematic, Diva-like or prone to yelling and screaming. Maybe the fact is, she is just very normal and natural and that the candid on camera talks with William and the collapsing with exhaustion is all we haven't really seen before. Does Kylie really need to be screaming hysterically and crying uncontrollably for this to be "warts 'n all"? I'm loving the fact that she was just ordinary - without staged tantrums or ramblings ala Madonna or Elton in their docos.

Absolutely loved this - really does just show her as a normal as possible person despite her life in focus.

As for the bonus concert, again confused by some reviews, I always seem to love each concert more than the last - but having seen Homecoming live, then finally seeing it again here - I've really appreciated how much more relaxed and stress-free she appears on stage. Her previous shows, whilst still engaging the audience, have been very focussed and machine-like. True to her word, Kylie has taken the time to reflect and enjoy the moment - you only have to watch the few re-edits of some songs from UK Showgirl in the extras to see how strained Kylie appeared previously - of course we all know there were other factors present here.

Above all - fantastic DVD for dedicated or casual fans - doco really does goes beyond the backstage glimpses of previous concert DVDs - if only that you see Kylie as an 'ordinary' - funny, uncomfortable at times, person - if you're expecting some sort of expose - you won't really get it - maybe because there isn't really anything more to see!

On a side note - some of the jazz-style, over-doco songs sung by Kylie, are just beautiful - even the harshest critics would surely be surprised by her perfect handling of this style.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kylie Minogue's Homecoming DVD concert, February 7, 2010

This review is from: White Diamond/Homecoming (DVD)
As a huge Kylie Minogue fan,I couldn't wait to see this 2 disc set.Disc 1 is the 'White Diamond' full length director's cut version. It is a 2 hour documentary of Kylie's return to the stage after her battle with breast cancer.I was both sad and happy to see her struggle and move forward with her recovery. It was quite inspiring to see her as a cancer survivor and get back to doing what she does best which is sing, perform and entertain her fans. Disc 2 is the 'Showgirl Homecoming Tour concert' taped live in Melbourne,Australia December 11th,2006. The concert is about 2hrs and 20 mins long. The show is another greatly produced concert with amazing costumes, choreography, musicians, lights and Kylie sings all her hits. The concert is quite an emotional journey for Kylie and you can sense that when at one point she thanks her fans for "sticking" with her and supporting her. I couldn't help but cry at this point. It was great to see her back on stage not quite a 100% but giving it her best shot.
Even if you are not a Kylie Minogue fan, I totally recommend this 2 disc Dvd. You will not be disappointed if you like great music and an amazing live show.

The reviews so far have been misleading as to who can view it. And the listing has it as being US/Canada release, which was brought to Amazon's attention for correction 3 weeks ago. The average US household does not have a multi-region DVD player nor will most US computers/laptops play the disc. Just hoping to save other US Kylie fans any disappointment!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just gets better, January 10, 2009
This review is from: White Diamond/Homecoming (DVD)
I bought this double DVD and must say it had me glued to the television screen. The homecoming concert was her best yet and, yes, you have to forgive her manic choreography (every hand is where it needs to be). Kylies voice, sincerity, background singers and musicians did, once again, an amazing show not to mention the eye candy in her back up dancers. Dont miss the deleted scenes, there are some great songs not on the main program.

White Diamond. I really enjoyed this however, I found myself asking when it will be over. You get to know Kylie a bit more and how she moves in public but, not much at all on a personal level however, the shocking point I took from it is just how lonely these "stars" can be. I wouldnt trade spots for the world. Cozy up to this part of the double DVD on a Sunday evening with a glass of Champagne!

This is a great buy for all the die-hard KM fans! A 2-disc DVD set of both her documentary titled "White Diamond" and her Showgirl - Homecoming Tour! Here's a summary of disc 1:
basically, it's a documentary that goes behind the scnenes of the Showgirl Homecoming Tour. You get to see Kylie meeting with fashion designers Dolce and Gabbana who worked on one of her costumes. You also get to see Kylie during rehearsals and her personality offstage. A nice bonus feature to this DVD is the performance of Kids with her sister Dannii Minogue. The documentary was showcased in theatres in Australia and was received negative reviews by critics because Kylie wasn't acting like a "diva"(I guess the critics wanted this to be like Madge's Madonna - Truth or Dare). Personally, I enjoyed the documentary - it shows how Kylie has a warm and caring personality.
Here's disc 2:
Kylie returns to the stage to continue her Showgirl Tour. Her previous Showgirl Tour was postponed due to her battle with first stage breast cancer. Now, she's back and ready to take on the world! The set is the same with new additions of LCD screens and costumes. Here's the setlist:
ACT 1: Homecoming - Kylie appears in a pink feathered showgirl dress
1. Overture/Better The Devil You Know - Kylie returns to her hometown Melbourne, Australia and receives a standing ovation from the crowd as she appears on stage.
2. In Your Eyes
3. White Diamond
4. On A Night Like This
ACT 2: Everything Taboo - a little reminiscent of Janet Jackson's Whimsical Medley during her tours
5. Shocked
6. What Do I Have To Do?
7. Spinning Around
ACT 3: Samsara - this act replaced the Denial act from the Showgirl 2005 Tour. The stage is set like a desert
8. Confide In Me - has a middle eastern feel to it. Kylie's dancers control Kylie as if she were a puppet.
9. Cowboy Style
10. Finer Feelings - a snippet performed by Kylie's backing vocalist while Kylie dances with her dancers
11. Too Far - it's really cool that Kylie resurrected TF - her vocals are flawless as she hits the soprano range during the bridge!
ACT 4: Athletica - the stage is set as a gym
12. Butterfly (Sandstorm Dub) - an interlude which features an acrobat
13. Red Blooded Woman - Kylie is dressed as a kangaroo-cat like boxer.
14. Slow
15. Kids - Kylie struts the stage and performs with her backing vocalists
ACT 5: Dreams - Kylie wears a stunning red dress
16. Somewhere Over The Rainbow - Kylie sings on a moon
17. Come Into My World - the song is performed as a ballad as Kylie sings on the moon.
18. Chocolate
19. I Believe In You
20. Dreams
ACT 6: Pop Paradiso - Kylie is dressed in a black feathered emsemble
21. Burning Up/Vogue - performed as a dance interlude as Kylie sing the rap from Madge's Vogue.
22. The Loco-Motion - a jazzy performance just like the Showgirl 2005 show.
23. I Should Be So Lucky
24. Hand On Your Heart - a remixed version
ACT 7: Dance of the Cybermen - Kylie and her dancers are dressed as robots
25. Can't Get You Out Of My Head - the intro is from Dr. Who and Kylie emerges on the stage to perform her worldwide hit!
26. Light Years - Kylie sings some lines from her old hit Turn It Into Love
ACT 8: Encore
27. Especially For You - performed as a sing-a-long with the audience
28. Love At First Sight - a nice way to close the show. The LCD displays Kylie's old videos and tours!
Overall opinion: a very enjoyable concert and documentary for all of the KM fans. What are you waiting for? Purchase this DVD!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Heart warming!!!!, July 9, 2008

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: White Diamond/Homecoming (DVD)
I am a Kylie Minogue Fan, when she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer I did something special until the day I heard she got back to stage... When her live double disc cd Show Girl Home Coming Live came out I bought with out even thinking about it, I was just glad she was back... But this documentary to me it's not about music, shows or tours, to me it's about Kylie being a "SURVIVOR" in her battle... This film it's was not as emotional as I thought I was going to be, somehow I thought it was filmed while she was battling the cancer, but make no mistake seeing Kylie up in stage again gave me chills... Hearing her sister speaking about how Kylie only her self can know when it's the right time to start again was very heart warming, she also said that what Kylie gets from performing it's all she needs to go on... I respect Kylie as an artist this film shows some what how emotional was coming back onstage for her... I gave it 4 starts just because the film shows a lot of technical aspects like picking the dancers and stuff like that, I thought it would be more of her personal battle with coming back... I loved it though because a lot of moments were very raw and real, honest you might say, I did see a bunch of stuff we as audience don't get to see... Welcome back Kylie, I was glad to hear her responce when she was ask:"why do you do it?" and she didn't answer, he asked:"do you do it for the 12,000 people out there?" to this she answer:"I would do it just for 2 it's all I know what to do"... Spoken like a true artist...

Obviously the Homecoming live from Melbourne is much much more better than the Showgirl live from London, with the new song list, new costume, new stage design and of course the brand new KYLIE.

My favorite from this live dvd, is definitely SLOW.

The white diamond film is nothing special except her personal daily routine during her preparing and rehearsal for her homecoming performance. If you are a true fan of her, you will be able to like it. If you ever watch "True or Dare" or "I'm gonna tell you a secret" by Madonna, you more or less can tell what kind of film it is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful documentry, fantastic concert, May 4, 2008
This review is from: White Diamond/Homecoming (DVD)
White Diamond-

Finally, North American Kylie fans get to see the beautiful documentry "White Diamond". The film was directed by Kylie's stylist, gay husband, photographer, and so much more, William Baker. I don't agree with everything that William Baker does with Kylie but I have to say that he made an absolutely beautiful film about Kylie. The film starts in the Summer of 2006 when rehearsals for the Showgirl Homecoming tour starts. It shows Kylie rehearsing the dancers and band and also visiting Dolce & Gabbana and Chanel for her costumes.
The first night of her tour is very exciting and ends with Kylie laying on the floor because she was so drained. The film shows a lot of the Australia tour dates, including when both Bono and her sister, Dannii come to sing with her. It shows how exhausted Kylie became after performing so much. The tour then moves to the shows in England. We get to see a little bit of Kylie and Olivier's romance at the New Year's Eve show. They are no longer together but I think it showed her fans that they truly were in love. One of the hardest bits to watch was when she had to cancel one of her Manchester shows because she was ill. It was sad to watch because she obviously wanted to perform and not let her fans down but she was too ill to continue with the show.
I really, really enjoyed the documentry. I got a bit emotional at the beginning and during the Manchester show but I didn't cry too much. I did notice that Kylie really seemed against the film at times. She doesn't like to reveal a lot of herself to the public and there were a few times when she would raise her hand to the camera to tell them to stop filming. But I really appreciate that she went through with making the documentry. My favorite parts of the film are the things that happened in Kylie's dressing room. Kylie, William, and Leanne (Kylie's personal assistant) played with Photobooth on Kylie's Mac and it was so funny. Also the two times that they showed Kylie and her group dancing and being giggly. Another great moment is when Dannni came to sing "Kids" with Kylie and you see how much she and Kylie support and love each other.

The bonus footage on the disc is the full version of Kylie and Dannii Minogue singing "Kids"

Showgirl Homecoming:

The concert was filmed in Kylie's hometown of Melbourne, Australia. The opening of the concert when Kylie rises to the stage gave me goosebumps and a big smile on my face. It's so great to see Kylie back on stage. One of the songs at the beginning is a song called "White Diamond". It didn't make the cut on Kylie's cd "X" but I think it worked well on the Showgirl Homecoming tour.

I think the concert is a fantastic mix of beautiful images and also it's pure fun to watch. My favorite section of the show is when she sings "Confide in me", "Cowboy style", and "Too far". She used a Middle Eastern flair to this section. "Confide in me" is a favorite of mine because Kylie is like a puppet on a string and two of the dancer control her moves. The overall effect is really cool. I also like the "Dreams" section when Kylie is on the moon, as she was in the first Showgirl tour. It looks so beautiful. Another great moment is during a break when the dancer that the fans call "Manchester Boy" (stemming from his appearance in Kylie's 2002 Fever concert when she called him that) does a solo to Kylie's song "Butterfly". His real name is Terry and he's an acrobat. He does a lot of flips and does a handstand while going down the stage stairs. It's really cool. My last favorite moment is near the end of the show when a fan gives Kylie a t-shirt that says "Char says relax". Char was Kylie's character in the Australian soap "Neighbours". It's a cute moment.

The concert is really fantastic and I think I like a little bit better than the Showgirl concert in 2005. Maybe because this time, Kylie's seems really into the show and like she's giving it her all. Bonus features on the Showgirl Homecoming DVD are re-edits of some of her 2005 Showgirl concert and also wallpapers and a screensaver for your computer.

So if you're a Kylie fan, you should definitely pick up this 2 DVD set because you won't regret.
