Format: Hardcover
This book conostitutes a rethinking of contemporary feminism through the lens of matrophobia, the fear of becoming one's mother. Through a sophisticated set of arguments, Hallstein suggests that the underlying matrophobia of much feminist thought divides women from one another and from themselves. She provides an instructive historical outline of how matrophobia developed and provides suggstions for a new theoretical position that maintains both a structural focus on institutional power and a focus on the micro practices of power. This is an important addition to the feminist literature on mothering.
