Meaningful and musical.,

His two best albums, together on one nicely remastered CD. Sounds great with no background noise. Christian music recorded for a secular label (ABC) at a time when such things were largely unheard of. But he was professional and respected enough to pull it off. Featuring many great names of the LA studio scene of the '70s, like Larry Carlton, Dean Parks, David Hungate, Lee Ritenour, Ernie Watts, etc., etc. Polished and meaningful without beating you over the head. It was worth it to me to pay a premium for it after missing it when it was released.

At one point in the Christian music industry, the labels (Myrrh, in this case) actually started caring about their past history. This CD was released in 1991 and contained the first two solo albums of famed music producer, Michael Omartian. These two albums were originally released on a mainstream label and they represent some of the finest examples of what quality music with a spiritual focus can be. Of course, this CD is now long out of print. This is, of course, is the biggest problem with the big labels of Christian music: they shamefully exhibit an attitude of not caring about all the great music that was recorded in the early days of what came to be known as "contemporary Christian music." While mainstream labels continue to release remastered, deluxe versions of their past musical gems, the Christian music industry (not counting the visionary independent labels who have released a lot of past CCM classics), continues to ignore its past history. Most of the CCM artists of the 1970s and 1980s are woefully missing on CD. Some artists have taken to releasing CDR versions of their past work (usually coming from inferior vinyl sources), because the big labels have not released their music in the proper fashion. Maybe some day this situation can be rectified, but the CCM industry is desperately in need of some visionary people who see the value of this forgotten music and to start remastering the great artists (such as Michael Omartian, Mylon Lefervre, Phil Keaggy, etc.) of the early days of CCM and getting all this great music back in print. Enough of my diatribe. If you can obtain a copy of this out-of-print CD, get it. Songs like "White Horse," "Here He Comes," and "Jeremiah" are standouts, but both these albums have consistently great songs, are expertly produced, and the musicianship is top notch. The lyrics (by popular "Power of Praying" book author Stormie Omartian) are intelligent and thought provoking. Even if you're not a spiritual person, you should still give these classic albums a listen.
