Getting back to the real roots,
This review is from: White Ink, Black Ink (Audio CD)
For those who love everything else besides Per second this is a great album. Wheat is doing a great job of mixing what they learned from Per second and mixing that finally with the raw talent in lyrics and just plain music making that made them great in my eyes of Hope and Adams.
For those unfamiliar with Wheat they moved into the scene in MA around the time Guster made it big with a simple sound and strong lyrics. Originally signed with a Sugar Free records and later signed with Sony for "per second per second". And with all major labels they put out a much more "produced" sound. After moderate success, Sony dropped them. And have since been bumped around on labels. But he good part is there sound is stronger than ever.

Off-balance,
This review is from: White Ink, Black Ink (Audio CD)
It seems that everything since "Per Second" sounds...off balance or something from these guys. That album was a true classic and gets better with time. Obviously they have creativity coming out the wazoo, but something doesn't quite click into place. Will keep fingers crossed.

They Lost It,
This review is from: White Ink, Black Ink (MP3 Download)
Wheat...where did you go?
Songs like "Don't I Hold You" showed true promise. Precision in your drumming and timing throughout wonderful melodies made us crave for more. Heartfelt vocals (in tune might I add) gave rise to powerful songs and overall fun. You were awesome. ...Now all we get from you is Chaos. A lack of effort. Barely anything keeps time, and to boot your vocals couldn't be in tune if a computer helped you. The guitar we all enjoyed is completely gone...and in addition to bad vocals you give us a random choir. Frankly, I believe you are one of the few bands that is getting WORSE over time...get back to your roots or please quit making music. I feel embarrassed anyone has to wade through all of this crap to get to the one excellent album: Per Second.
