This review is from: White Knight: Line of Avalon (Kindle Edition)
World-traveled and bored Ella -- "L" to her friends -- is foisted off from L.A. at the age of 12 to her large, extended family on the plains of North Dakota for a few months. Feeling instantly like a fish out of water both at home and in school, Ella soon discovers the family's farm is in danger of being foreclosed on. She also finds she's the heir to an odd medallion with a mystery to solve... which she will IF ONLY everyone would stop acting SO WEIRD around her! When she does, L's own extensive fantasy reading experience helps her to deal with an ancient and terrifying foe -- one perfectly capable of killing her and destroying her family.
WHITE KNIGHT: LINE OF AVALON is a fast, fun read; a contemporary fantasy with a vivid, believable winter setting and a sharp-tongued heroine. I've read a lot of Arthurian fantasies transplanted to modern-day America but Kesel still manages to make this one fairly fresh -- and it has the single best place for hiding a magical sword in plain sight that I've ever read. Recommended and hoping for more as L comes into her legacy. |
