5.0 out of 5 stars The Real Thing
One of my favorite LP's from the late 60's/early 70's was Cochran by Wayne Cochran and the CC Riders. I had discoved them as one of the horn-based bands of the era (BS&T, Chase, Dreams, etc.). I resisted hunting down the earlier recordings, however, because of reviews referencing white soul, comparisons to James Brown, etc. - why spend good money on an imitation...

This is not the Wayne Cochran I remember. The reviewers that give this CD 4 & 5 stars have never heard the Wayne Cochran I knew. These recordings are "flat" - no pizzaz. The were either recorded very late in his career or after he became a minister. SHAME ON AMAZON FOR SELLING THIS ITEM.

If this were my firt purchase from Amazon, I would never come backa...

5.0 out of 5 stars The Real Thing, November 10, 2006
This review is from: The White Knight of Soul 1959-72: Get Down With It! (Audio CD)
- why spend good money on an imitation?

I finally broke down and bought this CD on the strength of the songs I knew from the LP "Cochran". (Somebody's Been Cuttin' In on My Groove, Sleepless Nights, Sittin' in a World of Snow & We're Gonna Make It).

Nothing imitation here. This is the Real Deal!

4.0 out of 5 stars The Unknown R&B Soldier, March 20, 2006
This review is from: The White Knight of Soul 1959-72: Get Down With It! (Audio CD)
I knew Wayne Cochran by the single Going Back to Miami. Despite no charted on Hot 100, it was airplayed on Costa Rica's first Top 40 radio station back in 1967. Next year a girlfriend honored me with the generic Wayne Cochran vynil for Chess Records which I lost. Those songs are the reason why I kept looking for WC on CD till I found out this Australian release, so what to think...? I dig Wayne's energy on up-tempo songs but the ballads "When My Baby Cries" and "I'm Leaving Up to You" got a pure classic R&B with those musicians there. You see, not all that shine's is gold, but this is gold for those who appreciate such rock and soul or blue eyed soul style.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rare Find, October 24, 2005

If you have ever seen Wayne Chochran live then you know what an incredible show it was. Unfortunately, it is next to impossible to find any CD recording of his. This complilation, although sonically challenging, is representative of his show. It was very nostalgic for me to hear him once again and it took me back to the El Macombo in Toronto over 30 years ago when I first saw him live. If you are interested in his music buy this - there really is not anything else available. Truly, one of the greatest artists of the era.

He's responsible for inspiring Elvis's suits... and he's known as the white James Brown. The album will knock your socks off... enough said!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars remasters, April 21, 2008
This review is from: The White Knight of Soul 1959-72: Get Down With It! (Audio CD)
I had most of these songs on vinyl. But I must have worn them out. These tracks have been remastered and sound about 10x better than what I had. Exceptional horn arrangements. And Wayne will always be the greatest live performer I've ever seen. Also some tracks I've never heard him sing.

5.0 out of 5 stars More please, September 4, 2006
This review is from: The White Knight of Soul 1959-72: Get Down With It! (Audio CD)
A present this is the best and virtually only Wayne Cochran release available. But there is more in the vault. Please please please whoever owns the King masters, and Columbia (Sony?) if you are listening, please release the complete Wayne Cochran and CC Riders!

5.0 out of 5 stars Original Blue Eyed Soul, August 27, 2005
This review is from: The White Knight of Soul 1959-72: Get Down With It! (Audio CD)
A truly 60's soul recording. Cochran's recording of his most famous piece of material , "Last Kiss", is no where close to being the best recording on the CD , but no one sings " Last Kiss " like J Frank Wilson. The selections are some of the best 60's soul music which never got the air play it should have received.
