Book Description

Truth or Dare April 27, 2004

Dear Squidge, I really like you but...I ripped the letter up. Pathetic. "How am I going to do this, Bec? Help me."

Becca's face clouded. "He's going to be devastated. He really adores you."

Cat's always been the perfect girl next door. Thoughtful friend. Supportive girlfriend. Surrogate mother to her three younger siblings. A great help to her dad since her mum died.

But now Cat's facing some major dilemmas. A game of truth or dare lands her in hot water when she's asked for a truth she can't reveal. On top of this, she doesn't want to hurt her boyfriend by telling him the truth, but she knows it's over between them.

Is it right to tell lies to protect people or keep the peace? Can the truth be too hurtful? Cat tries to sort all this out, and in doing so, discovers a lot about herself and others.

Funny. On the mark novels that read like junior Bridget Jones's Diary.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: White Lies and Barefaced Truths (Truth or Dare) (Mass Market Paperback)
White lies and Barefaced truths i thought deserved 5 stars because of its wonderful storyline and content. Kat Kennedy in the story is 14 years old and she finds out when you need to tell the truth and tell white lies. I really enjoyed the story line because it focuses not only on Kat but what other people are feeling around her, you could put yourself in other peoples shoes and know how Kat is feeling at different times in the story. As the story progreses you get to know Kats feelings and she begins to develop and you get to kow more about the other characters and there developments. I would recommend this book for anyone 12-14. It is a brilliant book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, May 12, 2005
This review is from: White Lies and Barefaced Truths (Truth or Dare) (Mass Market Paperback)
To respond to the reviewer who said these books aren't relatable - well he or she must never have been a teenage girl. Sure it a glamorized version of teenage girlhood but some of the same problems the characters had happen to real girls. Dating, breakups, parents dying ... a lot of girls can relate to that. This book is not supposed to be Anna Karenina but it is for pure entertainment value and I think the writer more than succeeds in entertaining the reader. At least I was entertained. I laughed a lot and felt sad sometimes but it was an adventure. I am 22 now and I love this book so I can imagine that any teenage girl would. Highly recommended!

P.S. I actually enjoyed this more than the 2 Mates, Dates books I've read.

This review is from: White Lies and Barefaced Truths (Truth or Dare) (Mass Market Paperback)
I really enjoyed the first book in this series, so I enjoyed this one just as much if not more. In White Lies and Barefaced Truths, we see things from Kat Kennedy's point of view. Kat's mom died some time before, so she only lives with her dad. She has pretty many siblings and has to deal with them while dealing with herself and her friends. Kat learns to tell the difference between a time when you should tell the truth and when you might need to tweak the truth. I think a lot of girls will connect with this character, so check out this new series written by Cathy Hopkins.
