Like with every growing young band between albums, there are palpable changes. The addition of young guns Myke Russell and Kevin Gruft on guitar, add not only a level of competence and metal-style execution, but Kevin's leads take the band to a new technical level that's both exciting and inspiring. Drummer Scot Gee brings the heat on the drums, taking cues from favorites DC of Tool and JT of the Mars Volta, he embellishes the songs with jazz inspired time signatures and a broad range of styles - from disco hi-hats in verses to galloping double-bass. Paris Bosserman returns on the bass, holding down the foundation, beating and sliding through the songs, and adding something new with his voice on this album, complimenting the lead vocals with some surprising high parts.
This record, we hear more revealing tales of personal life, love and lost cause, but Pierrick's lyrics also take the listener inside the van. We get to experience, in his first hand accounts, the highs and lows of living in a band - the resulting overexposure of ones self, the departure of former friends and band members, the snap judgment of others, the hopeless situations and glorious highs, all there for the listener to take in. These are the words of young men grown through two years on the road, times of trial and judgment, and revelation. A little older and wiser, now able to see through the "White Lies" of naïve promise and automatic fulfillment, the band has composed a dramatic and exciting record of their own life and times for the listener to join in on and enjoy the bumpy, but thrilling, ride.

Second Time's A Charm,
By Eric D (Michigan) - See all my reviews
This review is from: White Lies (Audio CD)
What would the typical band signed to a small indie-label do when both guitarists and the drummer quit in the same week? Most likely break up, but vocalist Pierrick and bassist Paris did just the opposite and nearly impossible. They found two new guitarists and a new drummer and proceeded to write and record their follow-up to 2005's "Just Breathe." The result? MUCHO BETTER. To be specific, heavier guitar riffs, more dynamic drumming, a broader vocal range, more impressive lead-guitar work, catchier hooks, more complex vocal harmonies, and insanely insightful lyrics. Pick it up if you're into any kind of rock music. It has something for everyone.

A nice take on an over-saturated genre,

This band brings more of a classic rock and traditional rock feel to emo. There are good guitar solos on this album and overall the music is pretty good. Compare that with some good vocals and a talented band of songwriters and you have a good cd. This CD has some appeal to people outside of the genre as well. Not your simple emo band.

A style of music somewhat unique,
By TheDrJesus-OriginalZombie (chicago?) - See all my reviews
This review is from: White Lies (Audio CD)
While this album could be labeled many types of styles which im sure are only detrimental to the actual music, i would say they are a heavier, faster paced version of the more popular "emo/hardcore" scene ... a great cd with great transitions, breakdowns, intros and flow overall. This is one of those cds that you can play and will not be inclined to skip any particular song or section in order to get to the next song you might have heard before. I have never heard their other cd but i do have to say this is one of my favorite ... listen to ill make it to the brigades and try to not get into it. They rock, plain and simple.
