Book Description

December 9, 2008
Barbara Tiller Cole shines a comedic, sexy light on the characters of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, turning it into a delightful romp. Open the pages and take a look at maiden fears, the consequences of white lies, and the hope for redemption. If Fitzwilliam Darcy were alive today he would say, "If Jane Austen had written a Regency Sex Manual, this would be it!" Elizabeth Bennet would have said, "A fun, light, sexy yarn! What I would give to be taught by Professor Darcy!" Take a delightful journey with your beloved characters as you read this delightful farce!

More About the Author

Barbara Tiller Cole, an Atlanta native and the writer of the popular book 'White Lies and Other Half Truths' (an adult farce inspired by Pride and Prejudice) has just released 'Fitzwilliam Ebenezer Darcy'--a delightful combination of the best of her two favorite authors, Jane Austen and Charles Dickens.

Barbara credits her parents with fostering a love for both of these authors. Each Christmas, Barbara's father would sit and read Dickens's classic, 'A Christmas Carol', to the family. Her mother consistently challenged her to improve her mind by extensive reading, Jane Austen style.

Her next novel, 'Elizabeth Bennet, Darcyholic', is coming soon.

2.0 out of 5 stars Hmmmm..., February 14, 2009

This review is from: White Lies And Other Half Truths (Paperback)
I have read virtually all of the P&P sequels and enjoyed most of them. They are a relaxing read with familiar characters who feel like old friends at this point. There is a premise in this book which I liked having to do with Mr. and Mrs. Bennett. It's different from any interpretation I've read to date. What I find surprising in this book is the stunningly poor grammar in combination with characters' conversations separated by spacing and paragraphs for no reason. This book was apparently self published and made it to market seriously in need of an editor's guidance.

The sexual encounters, which are constant, bothered me because it made Elizabeth initially appear to have been raised in a nunnery rather than just being an innocent. Her complete lack of exposure to sexuality was not in keeping with her character as we have come to know her. It was all a little creepy and coarse actually.

1.0 out of 5 stars I couldn't finish this one., January 15, 2009

Between the numerous gratuitous sex scenes (bordering on pornographic in my opinion), and the strange font changes, I found it impossible to finish this book.

Had the plot been a little more well defined, I think I could have skipped the sex scenes and continued reading. This book seemed to be a series of stories based on the theme "White Lies", rather than having a central conflict to be resolved. Perhaps it would have been better as a compilation of short stories rather than one story?

That said, it is clear Ms. Cole has a vivid imagination, and I would like to see what she could do with a more defined plot and the assistance of someone more familiar with publishing.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not at all what I expected., January 24, 2009
This review is from: White Lies And Other Half Truths (Paperback)
Okay, I read the blurb and thought, "Hey! This sounds like it will be a good one." Only it wasn't and I ended up feeling let down.

Some of it was funny. But a lot if it was down right stupid. Okay, I do like stupid humor on occasion, but it just doesn't seem to work in a Pride and Prejudice regency. Obviously others liked it, but I just couldn't get into it. And what is with the font thing? If the author meant for there to be a purpose for it, I didn't see it. I had to put the book down so many times because the change in fonts was giving me a headache.

Also, where was the plot? Running jokes and sex scenes do not a plot make. Sure they ADD to it, but they just can't BE the plot.

This one is going to the used book store. I have no need of it.
