5.0 out of 5 stars Not just for bicycle chains

3.0 out of 5 stars Wax is FOREVER
It seems like a great lube if you want your chain to stay dry, BUT it is best applied to a NEW super-clean chain or else you'll only be bonding dirt to your chain permanently. Meaning... super hot water and even getting on your hands and knees with a toothbrush wont take this stuff off. It's pretty much permanent.

I have used White Lightning (now Clean Ride) for years and find it to be more than satisfactory. I have always thoroughly cleaned my bike chains before applying using a good organic degreaser. Warming the chain with a heat gun helps. The Clean Ride advantages over oil and grease are (1) starts out extremely thin so it penetrates everything and then dries to a wax film, (2) because it is dry, dirt and sand do not readily stick to it, keeping the chain cleaner, (3) stays put, does not fly off getting all over everything.

For the above reasons, I tried Clean Ride anywhere I normally needed a lubricant, but didn't want the oily mess. Door hinges, locks, machine screws, etc. I find in most circumstances it exceeds my expectations and it seems to last a very long time. Does not replace oil or grease in machinery, but for intermittent or low speed mechanical equipment it works very well.

I have not used it extensively on non-metal parts so I cannot comment on how it works with them.

This is the product recommended by SOG knives to lubricate the blade pivot on their knives and it works very well. It does not attract dirt and is not oily.

Searched high and low for a product like this. I cleaned my bike using the Park chain cleaner and then used the Clean Ride to lube it. So far after 50 or so miles, theres no squeeks and shifting is still great. There was still a tad of "dirtiness" if I took a towel and wiped the chain. Not too sure if thats just regular road grime or if I didn't clean well enough in the first place.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great product, but it doesn't last forever!, February 4, 2012
This review is from: White Lightning Clean Ride the Original Self-Cleaning Wax Bicycle Chain Lubricant, 4-Ounce Drip Squeeze Bottle (Sports)
I've gone through almost two and a half bottles of white lightning and I will say I'm really glad I purchased it. My LBS carries it for about $8 making it less expensive than most of the other lubes on the shelf. Like others have said, it is critical to strip the chain before applying, but it's worth the effort.

I live in SoCal and ride some really dusty trails. Before switching over to a wax based lube I'd find myself cleaning the chain more often than I wanted too. White lightning seems to keep the chain cleaner and quieter, without hindering performance. One thing I will say is that you do have to reapply often. After about 20-30 miles it's a good idea to reapply because the wax is designed to flake away, meaning there goes your lube. A simple wipe down and reapplication always does the trick.

I used this product on the sliding windows on my RV. The product was easy to use and works great. Don't know how long it will remain in the track, but will be using it in the future.
