B-sides for the win!,

This review is from: White Magic EP (MP3 Download)
After hearing their solid debut, Tell It To The Volcano, I was pretty eager for more from Phoenix, Arizona's Miniature Tigers. That more came in the form of their mp3 (and LP) only EPs: Black Magic and White Magic.
White Magic boasts three exclusive, non-album tracks: White Magic, Octopus and Viking Hearts. Like their debut, these songs are pretty catchy and well worth the buck-per-track price tag. White Magic is probably the standout track. It's a moderate paced, but catchy-as-heck, tune that could easily have been a single itself. Unfortunately (like the other EP) the second b-side, Miami, is fairly average. The last track, Viking Hearts, took a while to get into. This piece felt at first like your standard schlocky, indie ballad. Upon subsequent listens the tune and heart-on-sleeve lyrics won the day. Fans of Weezer may quickly think Butterfly when they hear this track. My recommendation is to just buy the extra songs. The first track, Dino Damage, sounds like the album version to me.
