5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible customer service
I remember from a very young age my parents making incredible ice cream out of a White Mountain. In the past 15 years, I tried using 3 different types of ice cream makers but it was never the same as my mothers. She always told me it was because of her White Mountain. So, I purchased one! I had a problem with the bucket which apparently is extremely rare. My mom had...

1.0 out of 5 stars Engine fried within 10 minutes of first use
How disappointing. I bought this because my parents had one when I was young. I bought this for my husband's birthday as a surprise. I couldn't even finish one batch of ice cream, when the engine froze. I waited 20 minutes like the instructions said, but nope. Nothing. I am sending it back. I will order one more in the hopes that this motor was defective, but if...

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible customer service, March 29, 2010
This review is from: White Mountain F69204-X 4-Quart Electric Ice Cream Freezer (Kitchen)
My mom had hers for over a decade. I contacted the company. I didn't have a receipt or other proof of purchase. They literally mailed me a new one (after two years of use) without proof of purchase! Then, they mailed me a label to send back the defective one. This one looks great and works well also. Here are some tips:

Before you make ice cream fill up wooden bucket with water. It should hold the water and make the wood swell. This will help make great ice cream.

After you make the ice cream pack it well. My parents put the wooden bucket INSIDE a larger plastic bucket. Then they pack materials around the wooden bucket and place a heavy blanket on top of the ice cream maker after the ice cream is done. The ice cream comes out very solid, sometimes too hard to scoop out!

After you enjoy your ice cream, pour out the salt water and rinse very well. Wash with soap and water. Then dry with a towel.

Often, my mother rubs a little oil around the metal rings and the at the bottom inside of the metal to make sure it doesn't rust.

If you take good care of it you should have it for years and years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product!!, July 6, 2001

I would nicely like to disagree with the review above. We have two ice cream makers and if you take care of them properly they will last forever. We have had one for over 15 years and the bucket is still good. All that need to be done is for the bucket to be washed out after use. I recommend this great product!

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely the BEST, August 31, 2005

Simply put, an awesome churn for home-made ice cream. I have an old hand-crank that I had always used to make the best ice cream, but it was a lot of work - churning fast at the beginning and then slowing down as the cream transformed. With this churn, the motor is variable in its speed and churns at an excellent fast speed to begin; then, as the cream solidifies and freezes, the motor changes pitch and slows down to give you a wonderfully whipped and smooth cream. I even made ice cream using just whole milk and peppermint sticks and it still turned out great. Highly recommended and much better than any other electric churn you can buy. I've had two other electric churns - neither of them could hold a candle to the White Mountain.

I hestitated after reading some reviews, but bought this machine anyway and I love it! Using the Ben & Jerry's cookbook (with super easy recipies) this machine makes creamy, wonderful ice cream in 15 minutes. Dealing with rock salt was easy---three inches of ice then a layer of salt (kind of like making a triffle). I love it so much we bought a second one for our second home. My son thinks this is just the greatest fun and it has brought back good memories for all the grandparents.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Ice Cream Freezer, July 4, 2007
This review is from: White Mountain F69204-X 4-Quart Electric Ice Cream Freezer (Kitchen)
I have had several cheaper ice cream freezers, but this White Mountain ice cream freezer is the best. First of all, the paddles rotate against the outer edge of the canister, allowing better mixing of the ice cream while freezing. This definitely speeds up the process. The motor is much stronger and quieter than others I've had previously. This item is well worth the higher price. Nothing beats homemade ice cream on a hot summer day.

The motors on these makers are of poor quality. I used it for les than 10 minute before it broke. I have read other reviews that say this also. Don't buy it.

Got one of these ice cream churns a long time ago, and it was great... until the bucket fell apart. The bucket is wooden held together with bands that can corrode, so the salt you add to the ice ends up destroying the bucket in a few years. I haven't been able to find a replacement bucket, either. Makes great ice cream, though.

My family has used White Mountain Ice Cream Freezers for 40 yrs. I was excited to get my own and it is everything I expected. It is very well built and is the standard for all other freezers to compete with. They are expensive and I look at it as an investment in making good ice cream.
