Where to find the Vladimir Visotsky song....,
By Mrs. Emma Peel "gimmejewelry" (Houston, Texas United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: White Nights: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
For those of you who have been looking for the beautiful Vladimir Visotsky song "Koni Priveredlivye" (or "Fastidious Horses") from the theater scene of White Nights that wasn't included on the soundtrack, here is a link to a website where you can download it for free....
http://go-mp3.rin.ru/eng/artist/516/32,106,1264/ You will have to register first, but this is free and once you're registered they'll allow 1 free mp3 download per day. There are 6 versions of this song sung by Visotsky to download here in addition to the version from the film. The exact version from the film is the first song listed under composition "Koni Priveredlivye", album "U Babeka Serusha, Opaliha", year 1976. It's a nice clean copy and is a decent 128 kbps. Click on the empty box next to the song to check it, then click on the words "(in basket)" at the bottom of the list. If you have registered, a new window will open with the song listed and a download link. If you haven't yet registered, when you click the "(in basket)" link a window will open that will give you the opportunity to register (just name, e-mail, etc; no credit cards or anything). Once you've confirmed your registration through the e-mail they'll send to your mailbox, sign in and then reopen the link I listed above and put the song in your cart again. The window allowing you to download should open now. AOL users will probably need to use a different browser to do this (I'm on AOL and I could only get the cart window to load properly using my Internet Explorer browser). If for some reason this link takes you to the site but not to the page with the song, type in Visotsky's name as "Vysockij Vladimir" when searching in the English version of their mp3 section. At the moment, the pages to find all 7 versions of this song are 32-33 on their massive list of Visotsky's music (1264 songs!). I was so thrilled to finally find this song after years of looking (and for free); I hope this helps some of you also.

The Horses?,

This review is from: White Nights: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
This is an excellent soundtrack, but as the previous poster pointed out, the song by Vladimir Vysotski is absent. This is a not to be missed example of music banned in the communist era! If anyone is looking for it...it's difficult to find, the movie credits mistranslated the title. It's actually called "Fastidious Horses."

If you like the movie, get the soundtrack!,
By Priscilla Stafford (Yokohama, Japan) - See all my reviews
This review is from: White Nights: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
This soundtrack is from the movie 1985 movie "White Nights". Starring famous dancers Mikhail Baryshnikov and Gregory Hines, the movie boasted a fantastic soundtrack. Though pure 80's music, trust me; you don't have to be an 'oldies' fan to enjoy the songs, though fans of the movie might enjoy the soundtrack better than those who have never seen the film. The album features ten songs, more than half being quite wonderful dance music.
Songs included are: *Separate Lives (Love Theme from "White Nights")* (Performed by Phil Collins and Marilyn Martin) Though they do not overdue the harmonizing keeping the duet quite simple, their voices blend beautifully giving this song an 'easy-listening' experience. (See bottom of review to see what awards/nominations this song got) *Prove Me Wrong* (Performed by David Pack) For fans of the movie, this song is probably the most 'famous' of all the songs. The reason? This is the song where both Baryshnikov AND Hines dance together! Great choreographing, the song may seem on the slower side at first but no worries; it quickly picks up the beat. *Far Post* (Performed by Robert Plant) Best part of the song is the instrumental part of the song where there's some great jazz piano playing done. *People On a String* (Performed by Roberta Flack) In m opinion, the weakest song in the soundtrack. Probably the reason is because it's quite dull and slow compared to the rest of the album. Though Roberta Flack sings with a clear and strong voice, this has a very haunting melody. *This is Your Day* (Performed by Sandy Stewart and Nile Rodgers) A very fun song, you just gotta snap your fingers and clap your hands to the beat! The words to the chorus are easy to remember so it's very catchy. The little harmonizing parts between the main singers adds some flavor as does well placed instrumental parts. Lots of fun! *Snake Charmer* (Performed by John Hiatt) One of the rockier songs in the album, it may get a bit repetitive after a while. There are some cool sound effects that's like the shaking of a rattlesnake's tail. *The Other Side of the World* (Performed by Chaka Khan) A slower song but easy to listen to, Chaka Khan sings the song well, hitting every high not with ease. Opens up with classic 80's keyboard. *My Love is Chemical* (Performed by Lou Reed) A repetitive song, but what a repetitive song! Will most definitely get in your head and you can just feel your body move with the beat. For those who have seen the movie, who can ever get rid of the image of Baryshnikov doing his 11 pirouettes then dancing in rhythm with the music? *tapDANCE* (Performed by David Foster) Another of the most famous songs in the movie, the scene where Gregory Hines... well... tap dances! The musicians are just jamming away and you can tell through the music that they seem to be having so much fun. What's very unique about this song is that there are bits and pieces where you can hear Hines's tap dancing in beat with the song! *People Have Got to Move* (Performed by Jenny Burton) Another cool dance song, it was used in the movie while Baryshnikov and Hines are warming up. The only problem I would have with the album is that two songs were not included as some reviewers have mentioned. One is "Fastidious Horses" performed by Vladimir Visotsky and "Say You, Say Me" performed by Lionel Richie. I didn't mind too much that "Fastidious Horses" was missing, but I was surprised that Lionel Richie's song was missing, considering that it won an Oscar and a Golden Globe for Best Original Song in a Motion Picture. Otherwise, a fantastic album! If you've seen the movie, get the soundtrack! Awards for "White Nights Soundtrack": *WON* Oscar/Academy Award for Best Music, Original Song - "Say You, Say Me" Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song for a Motion Picture - "Say You, Say Me" BMI Film & TV Award for Most Performed Song from a Film - "Separate Lives" *NOMINATIONS* Oscar/Academy Nomination for Best Music, Original Song - "Separate Lives" Golden Globe Nomination for Best Original Score for a Motion Picture

Bought it for the Plant song,
By A Customer
This review is from: White Nights: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I didn't see the movie and I don't know anything about the Russian song that was omitted from the album. I bought this soundtrack for "Far Post", a truly amazing Robert Plant tune. To my knowledge this song was only previously available as the B-side to the "Big Log" vinyl 45. In my opinion, this is Robert Plant's best song as a solo artist, and if I have to buy an entire movie soundtrack to have it on CD, it's still well worth it.

The soundtrack was ok. I was really upset that the Vladamir Vysotsky song was not on the soundtrack. Where can I find the Vladamir Vysotsky song? It is called The Horses or Fastidious Horses. I would like the same version that is in the movie.

where is the russian song?,
By A Customer
This review is from: White Nights: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
In this age and time one would not expect to cut out one of the most meaningful songs, in mood with the movie, just because it was sung in Russian. It's a pity (the same on the LP).
