R. D. Lawrence writes a superbe tale of a rare and wonderous animal, a white puma. The novel follows the cat's life from his mother's coming to maturity to his adulthood. Running concurrently to this storyline is the story of a pair of hunting guides and their activities as guides, hunters and poachers. Being a naturalist, the author provides a startlingly accurate picture of the actions of all characters and the mountain valleys they live in. This tale provides a window into the behaviour of both pumas and people in a way few stories can. A must-read for all feline furries as well.

R.D.Lawrence is an excellent nature writer. I became enamoured with his story of the White Puma, along with his stories of wolves. I've since "adopted" both a wolf and a puma at a wildlife sanctuary. I've tried to get every book he has written, as there will sadly be no more. He makes you want to help protect these threatened animals for the future of our children. Picture books are fine, but stories of how the animals live are better. Let them live!

I read this book when I was 13, it had me completely hooked by the time I was finished with the 1st chapter! The way the author draws you in getting inside the life of the white puma is amazing! I wish I could get a current copy but it is out of print and I haven't been able to find it. If you have a copy hold on to it
