5.0 out of 5 stars A Lesson On Leadership & Loyalty, September 10, 2010
This review is from: The White Rajah (Paperback)
Wow, what a powerful story about leadership. A man leaves one home in disgrace and rediscovers his grace in an island he was meant to someday rule. Mr. Monsarrat must have been a man with many leadership qualites. It would take one with such strength to depict another of that like so convincingly. The author gave the lead character (Richard Marriott) just enough stubborness, wisdom, courage and compassion to make men envy him and women fall madly in love with him. Reading this story was like watching one of those cinemascope epics from days past, with a real hero. I really enjoyed getting lost between the pages of "The White Rajah." I look forward to reading another Nicholas Monsarrat book in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sir James Marriott the Lucinda D. slavery in Asia, January 23, 2003
This review is from: The White Rajah (Paperback)
a great novel of the western and Oriental mind, of Slavery and ships that sale from Asia . This book is a fast read and the writer brings details and events clearly to your mind. Cruelty and the carrying trade as it was called ..from 1850 to 1861 an inheritance of a life that the hero would not have chosen.
