A novel that will keep you on the edge of your seat!,
By Allyson Zelasko (Maryland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The White Room (Paperback)
A novel that will keep you on the edge of your seat. A.J. Matthews does an outstanding job by combining a family vacation into a terrifying nightmare. Tim Harris and his wife Polly decide to travel to Main on a family vacation with their son Brian. During this time Polly experiences many tragic events that end up haunting her. The worst part is that she doesn't know there is more to come. Mysterious things start to happen when human bones in a construction site are found and ghostly objects are seen. All this will cause chills on the backs of the readers as the intense moments are read. The most exciting part about this novel is that the reader has no idea what will happen next with the high suspense.

Disappointing,
By KEVIN SMITH (LONDON United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The White Room (Paperback)
When I purchased this book last weekend I checked out Amazon.com for the reviews and ouch! Four out five reviews said this book was bad but I thought I paid my money and started reading anyway. By about page 70 I was ready to chuck it in the trash..The main charactor seems most of the time crying or fainting which makes for very tedious reading. Best avoid this one.

Are we through yet?,

This book could have been good but it was irritating the way the main character couldn't handle any situation. Also I don't think the narration was believable. It didn't make sense like when she got scared and was leaving her son not knowing what's going on. I flipped throught some of the pages it was so repetitive and boring. The ending to me was predictable and I didn't care at all about the little girl's part in the story. It would have been better totally left out. Not worth my time.

A special horror,
By A Customer
This review is from: The White Room (Paperback)
The White Room is a new classic tale of horror, thought provoking, disturbing and compellingly readable. The themes are tried and triue, but the depth, and the frights, here seem new, and powerful, as if eerily placed with a caring, spooky hand. If that sounds good, then pick this up, light a cadle, lock the front door...and settle in for a long eve's chilly read...

The White Room,
This review is from: The White Room (Paperback)
It may have been predictable, but it was also mysterious. I was very sympathetic with Polly. I think a little more info of the missing others could've been explained throughout the story, but still an enjoyable read. Most (if not all) of the 1 star reviewers probably have never written a story in their life. It's so easy to criticize.

Meh.,
This review is from: The White Room (Paperback)
Thank god I picked this up in a used book store on store credit. Didn't cost me a dime. While I really didn't notice the fainting that much, the other reviewers are right. The lady does faint alot. I myself am NOT prone to fainting spells, so I'm not sure why that didn't strike me as odd. Anywho, I love a good suspenseful book. I like being creeped out and all that. It creeped me out a couple of times, but on the whole, it failed to really strike me as all that spooky. It took a long time for me to read this (I read in bed) because I kept on falling asleep!
I think that Polly was way too whiney. I did not like her. If I knew Polly in the flesh, I'd probably tell her to shut up. Life is hard, get OVER it. Come ON! Yeah, she kinda stepped up later but still. She makes us women look bad. Ya know? And I know females like that (I think we all do). Maybe not ones who faint all the time. Definitely not my favorite read, but I read it. And I didn't curse every second of it. Wouldn't recommend it. If you can get it for free and have nothing better to do, read it I guess. But don't waste your money on it. Cause I've read other "Haunted House" stories that are far more well done. Amityville Horror? Is there anyone who HASN'T read that one though?

Page turner,

Honestly this is my first novel from Matthews and I was very impressed. It was suspenseful until the end. Definitely a page turner and I will seek out other novels by Matthews.

A great Halloween time read,

This was a fun title. It works great during that Halloween time of year. If your a big fan of those creepy ghost stories this is the title for you. I also recommend any of the other A.J.Matthews titles.

As with all his books I couldnt put this down. Its one scary great read.
I have no clue what a few reviewers meant by Polly is always fainting. 3 times in the entire book isnt always or a lot. Its part of the story of whats happening to her. She sure becomes stronger as the story progresses.

Yes, that's my opinion of "The White Room". Okay, how many times is this woman Polly going to faint? That got really old. Her husband Tim is as interesting as a dish towel. I think my 6-year old could write a more interesting novel and come up with better dialog. I could go on about this book, but I think the other reviewers have covered it.
