Book Description

Mad.
Brutal.
Unpredictable.

And those are their good points.

Vicious. Hateful. Foul-mouthed and bad tempered... He-Dog and Balless are all of these and more but, as mercenaries go, they are not without some merit. After accepting a mission that no one wanted, He-Dog and Balless travel the treacherous Lands of the South to the glittering city of Foust. There, they find the fabled walls under a massive Beastman siege.

No one in their right mind would try to get past an army of Beastmen. But He-Dog, Balless, and their companions aren't in their right minds.

Getting into Foust is utter madness.
Getting out will get them killed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read! April 23, 2012
By Jodi B
Format:Kindle Edition
Just wanted to be the first to write a review for Keith Blackmore, on yet another great book. I began reading work by this author when a friend told me about "The Mountain Man", which was a fantastic book. But, I must admit horror is not my usual genre, but thought I would give it a try, and I was not disappointed! This book- which is my genre of choice- was also a fantastic book! It has great characters, a great story, action, comedy, some great twists, and I thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end. Starts off explosively and keeps you enthralled to the end. I highly recommend this book to all you fantasy enthusiasts...and for any of you who aren't, give it a try, it may change your mind(yes really)!!
Anyways, thanks to the author for another awesome book! I will be reading more of your work for sure, and am anticipating your mountain man sequel!! I just purchased " The Missing Boatmen" a few minutes ago, and am going to start reading it right away! I'm sure it will suck me into "your world " like the last two I have read and I'm sure I won't be disappointed!! Keep up the great work, your a marvelous storyteller!

5.0 out of 5 stars What a great read!! April 29, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
What an awesome, fast paced, gritty and entertaining book!

Blackmore ranks out there with the Morgans,Buchanans, Abercrombies, Glen Cook , Vaughn Heppner, Mark Lawrence, among others.

His ability in creating awfull, yet eminently likeable, characters, is wonderfull! The pace of the books is fantastic, as is the action.

An Author to follow. Eagerly.

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT March 30, 2013
By Mad dad
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I loved this book. The story is very well written. I loved the characters, actually I hated He-dog and felt sorry for his companions having to put up with him. I grew to like the character. There are a few spelling and grammar mistakes, but I can overlook them fo such a page turning story. I read it in one night\early morning.

On a side note, Keith C Blackmore is a fantastic person. I went to his website to find out what the sequel was called or when it was being released. There was no info, but there was a contact me. I sent a short email asking if it was in the works and if there was a release date. I fully expected to get a form email back thanking me. I did not expect a long well written email hours later explaining that yes he is going to do a sequel, but he ran into problems with it and is not liking how it is going. He gets my respect for ever.

4.0 out of 5 stars Big, Bold and Bloody! January 30, 2013
By Jason T
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
When a combat-hardened, rage-fueled band of mercenaries take a commission that no one wants, it isn't Foust, a jeweled city of fable that they find at journey's end, but a desperate city breaking under the weight of a siege--and getting through the ferocious hoards of beastmen and into the city isn't really the end of the violence...for He-Dog and his crew, it's only the beginning.

This is a gritty and bloody tale with over the top action, combat and mayhem--told in a contemporary style that combines the self-interested heroics and individualized stakes of a sword and sorcery tale set against the vast stage and multiple points of view of an epic fantasy.

If the title of this review speaks to you, do yourself a favor and give this one a look.

5.0 out of 5 stars More, More, More March 20, 2013
By Diane
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Keith Blackmore is such a talented author who never disappoints his readers. In this book you have 4 crusty crazy men who fight for what they believe in is right. I wanted to take them home, clean them up and give them the best meal I could cook. The action is non-stop and you'll be on the edge of your seat till the very end. Borus, Ballesss, Chop and He-Dog are more than just warriors, They have feelings too. Way to go Keith, keep up the good work.

Blackmore has done it again. He is able to bring to life people who seem to be just like folks we know. Unlikely hero's are what make his books so great!

I really enjoyed the book. The story went to some very unusual places for hero fiction but the author really pulled the story off.
