Great Snow Pants with Serious Sizing Problems
on November 12, 2013
This pants broke my heart.
I was about to go on a one-week journey to Iceland, where hiking up and down glaciers would necessitate snowpants like this. So, I got an XL pair on Amazon and hoped for the best.
The pants arrived, and despite the fact that they are very well made and comfortable, the XL size was a little too tight. Nothing I couldn't cope with, but it would become annoying on the ice. So, I went ahead and ordered the XXL.
That's when the insanity began. My order was shipped super quickly, and the pants that I received did say they were XXL, but they actually fit worse than the XL! I could actually wear the original XL pants, just not comfortably. The XXL pants would not even close! Just to be sure I wasn't insane or slowly expanding like Violet Beauregard, I put on the original XL pants again, and yes, they did still fit. Some how the XXL's were smaller than the XL's.
Ok, I said, let's try this again. I put in for ANOTHER return, and get another pair of XXL's in the mail the next day. Sure enough, they are too small. So, there I am with three pairs of snowpants, one of which doesn't fit very well, and two of which I can't even put on at all.
The difference, as far as I can tell, is that the XL pants were made in China, where the XXL's were made in Bangladesh. It appears that this company has some serious quality and consistency control problems, or at least did with this line.
Which is very sad, because these are great, inexpensive snow pants. I ended up wearing the slightly too small ones, and just coped on my trip. They constantly kept my legs warm, they held up to ice and rock and rain. The pockets are deep, the boot flares are the correct size, and though the pants tend to sit a little low, they have belt loops (and they stay up great with a belt or suspenders).
Buy at your own risk, but maybe you will get lucky. Once they fix their quality control issues, I would make this a five star review. Until then... too much hassle.
