The ever-changing Cave In,

I've been a long-time fan of Cave In and one thing has remained consistent with this band...you can't ever predict the direction they are going to take. "White Silence" certainly has more in common with "Until Your Heart Stops" or their recent "Planets of Old" ep than with "Tides of Tomorrow or "Antenna". That's not to say however that this is a re-treading of their early metal-core days though. The first half of "White Silence" is a break-neck affair, almost reminiscent of Converge while songs like "Heartbreaks, Earthquakes" and "Reanimation" are more melodic tracks, with a foundation rooted in 60's psychedelic-pop. The sheer contrast shouldn't work but any fan of Cave In knows, these guys pull off mood shifts with panache! The overall production is much more intenionally indie sounding then previous efforts with an abundance of ambient noise and sound effects giving the album an even vibe despite the eclectic, almost schizophrenic songwriting. There's also more emphasis on other members of the band providing vocal duties, a directional shift that began with 2005's collection "Perfect Pitch Black". Cave In is a band that never gets too comfortable with one sound, but "White Silence" is another excellent addition to an already fantastic catalog.

Right Where They Left Off,
By Rob (Austin, TX) - See all my reviews

This review is from: White Silence (Vinyl)
If you enjoyed Cave In's last album, Perfect Pitch Black, you'll very likely enjoy this one. They've continued to meld all of their previous sounds into one cohesive blend of metalcore and space rock, with an increased emphasis on the heavier stuff - reminiscent of Until Your Heart Stops-era Cave In.I ordered the vinyl LP, and although it looks way rad, it was a bit bent and doesn't play on my old record player - the digital download worked fine, though, and my burned copy of the album hasn't left my car's CD player since I bought it. I highly recommend this one.

Return of Cave In!,

This review is from: White Silence (Audio CD)
This new album which I have been waiting for for years now is simply amazing. Cave in returns back to their hardcore roots in this album while maintaining the emotional experimental sound of their later albums. I would say old fans will really enjoy this album a lot it shows CI harder side which has been absent for so long. It is fast, heavy, shattering, beautiful, Plus hearing Cave In screaming again is a real treat, Brings back the good old days of Until Your Heart Stops album!Well done boys well done!
