Editorial Reviews

Review

"You feel all [Cass’s] emotions to the point where you're connecting with her so much, you feel like you are her." (Molly McAdams, USA Today bestselling author)

"Fans of the rock star genre will want to give this one a go, as this Prince Charming is a hot, tattooed musician… [I]n this story readers will meander through the dark and dangerous tunnel of Cass’ life and subsequently cheer her on when she comes out the other side." (Romantic Times)

"This story is filled with heartache and hope. Heartache for circumstance and life in general, but hope for a future." (Romantic Reading Escapes)

"It was such a dark story filled with a ton of angst and brief glimpses of light through a romance of hope and love." (Belle's Book Bag)

"I could not put it down. I had to know what was going to happen next." (Flirty and Dirty Book Blog)

"If you are looking for a story that will keep you on the edge and take you for an emotional ride, then White Trash Beautiful is for you. Hopeless romantics beware. Keep your tissues nearby." (Bookish Temptations)

"I would put this in the same category as other great angst-filled and passionate New Adult Romances, such as The Sea of Tranquility by Katja Millay, Hopeless by Colleen Hoover, and The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden by Jessica Sorenson! Read this book! It is a deep, thought provoking, story of substance, that will stay with you long after the last page has been read!" (A Bookish Escape)

More About the Author

I was a Russian spy at the ripe age of thirteen, given my uncanny ability to tell if someone was lying ( I also read fortunes on the weekends). By sixteen I had become too much of a handful for the Lethal Intelligence Ensemble (L.I.E.). I was quickly exiled to the south of France where I worked with wayward elephants in the Circus of Roaming Animals and People (C.R.A.P.). I was able to make ends meet by selling my organs on the black market for pocket change and beer money. At the age of twenty three I decided to expand my horizons and become a blackjack dealer in Ireland. I loved the family atmosphere at Barney's Underground Liquor Lounge (B.U.L.L.). People couldn't resist the allure of Liquor up front and poker in the rear. Eventually I became tired of the rear and headed off to the United States to try my hand at tall tales. That is what brings us here today. If you have a moment I'd like to tell you a story.

Overall, there were just too many little issues I had with this book that it weighs out the positive.

The whole time reading this book I was on edge just waiting for Cass' life to continue crumbling until there was nothing left. I tried to talk myself into a depressing ending so I wouldn't get my hopes up and then get let down because life doesn't always consist of rainbows and butterflies.

Cass' story is one of reality; a sucky life that she didn't create for herself, just stuck in a trailer park (her personal hell) by circumstance, and just trying to make the best of it. Her mother lost her fight to do something better with her life and actually live when Cass's father left years ago. Severely depressed and drowning in her pain with a bottle and a needle, she depends on Cass to take care of her. But Cass is strong. She didn't stop doubting and believing in a better life. She met Jackson 'Jax' her boyfriend when she was still in high school. He was the kid that bullied others but stood up for her and they've been together ever since. Things were actually good for a while. Jax worked a few jobs to help pay the bills and put food on the table, but life has a way of throwing a few curve balls every so often and Jax's curve ball came when his car broke down preventing him from getting to work. I guess it's easy to find excuses for why you can't get out of your hell when you have someone always willing to pick up the pieces and put you back together again. That's what Cass was to her makeshift family. When Jax's dreams dried up and he too turned to drugs and Cass' mother continued hide away from life and responsibility, Cass was left to figure out how to survive and hold it all together.

As young girls we are told that a good girl, a princess will find her knight in shining armor.

"Sometimes we don't know what we are missing until we find it."

First things first, props to the gorgeous cover! Second, it's got a tattooed, motorcycle riding rock star. But this is different. It's kind of sad but hopeful and completely engrossing. It is a short book, a few hours read at most.

Cass lives a completely depressing life in a trailer park in a small town in Georgia. She works as a waitress in the local dumpy diner and lives with her drug addicted mother and abusive druggy boyfriend. She knows that this is her lot in life, she is stuck.

"I'm not naive. I know I don't get the happily ever after. My knight in shining armor took the highway detour around this god forsaken shit hole. I've made peace with that. That doesn't mean I'm going to lay down like a doormat and let every cocky prick in the trailer park have his way with me."

When Tucker White comes into her diner, all badass and tattooed, Cass sees he doesn't belong. She thinks he is one of those guys that thinks that trailer trash is easy, so she is a total bitch to him. But he keeps coming back.

He represented everything I wanted in life. He was freedom, he was a fantasy. A dream that played inside of my head since I learned how cruel this world could truly be.

Despite Cass's attitude, I liked her. She was a good person doing the best she can with what she had. She was horribly down on herself and hopeless, but that little hope she had always came through. Her boyfriend, Jax, had been her hero when they were younger, but when the drugs began, he became abusive. Cass still felt she owed him for taking care of her and her mom earlier.

"You promised me you wouldn't do that anymore.

Terrible. The only decent part of this book was the excerpt for free on the website. The story devolved from there. The heroine plays the victim for 85% of the book and spends most of her time crying. The heroine lives with her drug addled mother and her abusive boyfriend. Works at a cafe where the owner treats her like shit (but later we are to believe he has a heart of gold). Everywhere she turns, she's a victim. can't even go to the laudromat because women are getting raped there. Some guy comes in named Tucker White. She hums a song from Damaged playing on the radio. Loves Damaged. But doesn't recognize the lead singer even though he sits in her booth several times. Or when his bandmates come in as well.

The hero has insta love. Why? I have no idea. The hero is a rock star, but there is nothing believable in the story about his rock star status. He is in all the gossip magazines, but he can walk around without being accosted, buying dresses for the heroine, dancing with her in a club, and kissing her under a pier where he just performed. Yeah, right.

Suffice to say nothing in this book makes sense including the heroine's insistence on being a victim. A crying victim. The characterizations are completely flat and the reader knows more about the abusive ex than she ever does about the faux rock star, Tucker.

SPOILER

Oh and she has sex with him, apparently without a condom. There are fits and starts with her being jealous of another woman in hero's life. An interfering band manager who acts like a den mother (and apparently looks like one). He gives her three pregnancy tests which were purchased by some random hotel attendant. Like that wouldn't hit the gossip papers?
