Editorial Reviews

Since Toby Keith's commercial success and canny image manipulation show how shrewd he is, perhaps the best explanation for songs as lackluster as "Note to Self" (a generic Rolling Stones arrangement with a hokey lyric) and "Runnin' Block" (about bedding an unattractive woman for the benefit of a buddy) are either laziness or pandering. On White Trash with Money, his first release on his own Show Dog imprint (and without longtime producer James Stroud), Keith occasionally appears to be stretching himself--on the string-laden balladry of "A Little Too Late," the tender "Crash Here Tonight," and perhaps his finest vocal performance to date on "Too Far This Time"--but often seems to be coasting. "Get Drunk and Be Somebody," "Grain of Salt," and "Brand-New Bow" are never less (and little more) than dumb fun, while "Can't Buy You Money" is a clever twist on the "money can't buy you love" adage. The most contentious track here, "Ain't No Right Way," is just waving a red flag at those who refuse to reduce complex issues to simple black-and-white. Keith insists that he only writes as many songs as he needs to record; this time, some quality control might have required writing a few more. --Don McLeese

Product Description

In the past two months...Toby Keith has been heralded again as Billboard's top selling Country artist, positioned in a 4th national television campaign with Ford Trucks, opened his own chain of I Love This Bar & Grill restaurants, filmed his first major motion picture, Broken Bridges for Paramount and launched a ground-up country label, among so many other milestones and accolades. But for him, and for the millions who will buy his new album, the real story is in the music. It is his music that made him arguably the most visible country artist of this millennium. It is his music that made him such a lightning rod for controversy. More than anything else, it is his music that proves Toby Keith's ability to communicate honestly and directly with millions of people. Features the singles 'Get Drunk & Be Somebody' and 'A Little Two Late'.

5.0 out of 5 stars TKIFC Review of WTWM..... April 11, 2006
Format:Audio CD
"White Trash With Money"
Where do I start to even begin to comment and review such an incredible CD...Toby never ceases to amaze the people, the country crowd, the music industry and continues to bring in FANS by the 1000's. WTWM is but yet another stepping stone in the Oklahoma Country Cowboys career that is going to leave lasting footprints and impressions in peoples lives, with the type of songs and lyrics on this particular CD. WE wanted to hear ballads, we got BALLADS, we wanted to hear BUS SONGS, We got BUS SONGS, WE wanted true to life songs, WE we got those too...Toby has many AWESOME CD's out there, and he just continues to keep them coming, what more can FANS ask for from the BEST ENTERTAINER OUT THERE. The songs on the CD all speak to me in some way, shape or form, with life always taking so many different twists and turns, Toby just about covers them all on this CD, and I love songs that can TELL YOU A STORY with only a few lines....they are the ones that get in there and stick for along time.....

1. GD&BS ~ a song in a league of its own, its one heck of a party song and this will leave alot of empty seats in the house druing a show, as everyone will be on their feet during this one...Which is ALL GOOD !!

2. A Little Too Late ~ Now tell me "who here hasnt been either as the initiator or the receiver" through a situation like this? Toby puts it into words and makes it seem like "its nothing we cant get past".

3. Can't Buy You Money ~ Only DA MAN, Toby could take an everyday longtime, quote like "All the Money in the world cant buy you Happiness" and turn it around put a whole new SPIN on it and make it WORK for us. It comes so naturally.

5.0 out of 5 stars Could be Toby's BEST EVER!!! April 12, 2006
Format:Audio CD
This could be the VERY BEST of the BEST...The Big Dawg might have 'outdone' himself on this one. The instrumentation is WONDERFUL...and Toby's wit and talent REALLY shine! Personal favorites are 'Crash Here Tonight', 'Grain of Salt', and 'A Little Too Far This Time'...Oh, and "Ain't No Right Way' brings tears to my eyes each and every time I listen, so it can't be excluded. Bussongs are a HOOT...thanks for the grin, BIG T...I am thrilled with the new label, the new album, and SO VERY PROUD to be a fan. TKIFC Warrior cccookie :o)

2.0 out of 5 stars Dissapointed November 27, 2007
Format:Audio CD
I was a huge fan of Toby Keith; before this album came out. I can accept the constant reference to an artist's idea of a perfect woman. But "Runnin Block" was downright dissappointing. If that's how Toby feels about imperfect women; I just can't enjoy his songs without thinking how shallow and insensitive he is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great One !! Woo HOO!!!!! April 11, 2006
Format:Audio CD
Toby always seems to top the last album...I totally love it!!! I especially like the different sounds of his voice on this album...his sense of humor shines through but yet, I see his soft heart and compassion he has in his song, Just Crash Here Tonight.

The first day I had the cd, I listened to it most of the day at work and I still can't get enough of it!!!!! Way to go Toby!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A REAL WINNER!!!! April 12, 2006
Format:Audio CD
Toby Keith says he likes to turn adversity into gold- well, he sure struck gold with this album! He took his public image as s guy with a bad attitude and made an album that's fun and sassy! A favorite drinking song is A Grain of Salt. Also 3 bus songs that are outrageous! A really fun album- you've got to buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Have CD April 12, 2006
By Linda
Format:Audio CD
This is a must have CD. It has a varied range of music from the partying Get Drunk and Be Somebody and Grain of Salt to the tender ballad Crash Here Tonight, to the social issues in Ain't No Right Way to the humorous bus songs. Toby's voice never sounded better than on this CD. Today, my favorite is Too Far This Time, but that may change as I listen to the CD more. The music in bus song Runnin' Block sounds very Western. Be careful listening to Get Drunk and Be Somebody in the car because it's one of those songs that tends to make you want to drive faster than the speed limit. I can see myself doing that with Grain of Salt and I Ain't Already There as well. Don't let the title of Get Drunk and Be Somebody scare you away, it's an awesome party song about working all week and just letting loose on paycheck Friday. Each song showcases different aspects of Tobys voice and writing abilities (he wrote or co-wrote all of the songs). You can hear the humor in his voice when he sings the hysterical bus songs. You can also hear the tenderness in his voice in Crash Here Tonight. It's a very well put together collection of music that'll hit a chord with many people is so many different ways.

5.0 out of 5 stars WTWM is the best April 11, 2006
Format:Audio CD
Toby Keith's WTWM on his new label SHOW DOGS is awesome. This is his best cd yet. His vocals are terrific, and the instrumental is great. It has a range of songs from party songs like GET DRUNK AND BE SOMEBODY ,to ballards like CRASH HERE TO NIGHT, and his famous bus songs like RUNNIN BLOCK which keeps you laughing way after the song is over. My favorite song so far is GRAIN OF SALT. I love the melody and the lyrics "BY NOW YOU'VE OBSERVED I WAS A LITTLE OVER SERVED LAST NIGHT" brings back a few memories. I listen to this cd all day long. Toby keith just keeps getting better and better. TKIFC-myemmy

No genre of music is as simple or unified as its detractors would have you believe. There's junk and fine work being produced in every area of music. If you don't like a particular genre very much because of your tastes, that is fine, but please don't insult it and its fans.

I strongly disagree... Read More
