This review is from: Murder City (Toy)
OK, first I have to say, I looked at this game at a local convention and I was like... yay. I wasn't really interested in it at all, because I am an RPG type person, and I am not interested in going to a convention, pay some money to play board type games. BUT I knew the person running the game, and he always shows a good time.
Each Player gets a "Murder Case" Board, it holds 3 murders cards, which briefly describe some type of murder in the game. Each board that each player has, has a brief description of what you detective is like, what his/her strengths and weaknesses are during the game, and it also gives you some flavor of a character by describing their attitudes towards the cases they investigate. There is 6 turns in the game before its over and the person with the most credits (money system used in the game) wins. OK so now onto the actual game play. Everyone rolls a D6 to see who goes first for the first time (each next round its the person who has the most credits). Next, each player get a "Leg Work", which allows each player to manipulate the game or as the group called it, "the screw people up card" second, the player who goes first, then looks at his investigation (also known as evidence) skills on the card, normally there is 3 or 4 (named interogation, eye witness, professional opinion, murder weapon). After looking at his list, he gets to pick up two evidence cards. You can hold them in your hand, or you can place them face down next to a murder case you are working on. This is where the fun comes in, because you can place evidence on a case that does not match the case (will explain later on this more). SO if you place the evidence, you get a credit, if you don't you just hold them in your hand. Next player does the same thing, and goes round the table. The point is to collect 3 pieces of evidence for each murder case and then you can go to "court". End Turn 1, this is the court phase. The GM now goes around the table and asked you do want to bring anything to court, and each player can say yes or no. IF a player does have something to bring to court, he has to announce the murder case, what 3 pieces of evidence he has, and the person to his left, can either challenge the evidence or approve it. If he challenges it and the evidence is wrong, the case gets thrown out and that person who challenged gets credits for each evidence piece wrong, if the evidence is correct the person who is bringing it to court gets a bonus. Pull out the D6, and each evidence card has a number on it, and that's how many dice you roll. You roll the determined dice, add them up, and then look at the murder card, if you beat the number on the card, you solved the case and you get the reward. The fun part of this game, is the leg work cards you get each round, because these cards can really mess up another player, but preventing his court cases from court or a piece of evidence is thrown out. Some of the cards even give you a bonus. Best part of them is you can play the cards during anytime in the game (it will tell you otherwise). Overall fun game, alot of fists being slammed at the table because of people messing with others. Fun 90 minutes. Try it. You'll love it.
