Night of the demented revolt,
By
This review is from: Fright Night Horror Classics (DVD)
MADACY's FRIGHT NIGHT HORROR CLASSICS is a triple-play of varied-quality public domain fright films: There's one great cult classic, one so-so film more famous for its fledgling director than anything else and one creaky cheese grater with eyeballs. Read on....
GREAT: NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD-- Cult fave about a brother (Johnny) and sister (Barbara) who visit a rural Pennsylvania town to see their father's gravesite. While there, Johnny is attacked and killed by a cannibalistic zombie but Barbara manages to escape. She flees to a nearby farmhouse where a group of terrified people are hiding from the monsters. After dark, their supposedly safe haven is beseiged by an army of the undead. Director George Romero appears briefly as a Washington reporter. SO-SO: DEMENTIA 13-- DEMENTIA 13-- Roger Corman's young assistant Francis Coppola was allowed to make this right after he finished 2nd unit work on Corman's latest film. It's the story of a tragedy-plagued family living in a creepy old Irish castle. CHEESE: REVOLT OF THE ZOMBIES-- Strange mid-30s movie that includes stock footage of Bela Lugosi's eyes. An expedition is sent to Cambodia; their misssion: destroy the formula for a zombie-creating elixir. HORROR CLASSICS V.10 (from ECHO BRIDGE ENTERTAINMENT) is a half-and-half DVD 4-fer: two movies from the 1940s and two released in the 70s. Parenthetical numbers preceding titles are 1 to 10 viewer poll ratings found at a film resource website. (5.6) Dementia 13 (1963) - William Campbell/Luana Anders/Bart Patton/Patrick Magee (8.0) Night of the Living Dead (1968) - Judith O'Day/Russell Streiner/Duane Jones/Karl Hardman/Marilyn Eastman/Charles Craig (2.7) Revolt of the Zombies (1936) - Dorothy Stone/Dean Jagger/Bela Lugosi ("The Eyes" - archive footage)
