Product Description

Hard Wire notebooks from Whitelines are bound with a Wire-O binding, allowing the notebooks to lie flat when opened. The hard, sturdy cover increases the longevity of the notebooks while keeping your notes and sketches protected. Most often used for journaling or as a personal assistant in the office, the Hard Wire notebooks are sure to safeguard your most important writings and make a statement. Whitelines, an innovative concept that originated in Sweden, is pushing the standards for the notebook industry. The concept is simple: Dark lines distract, Whitelines don't. Instead of white paper with dark lines, Whitelines notebooks are comprised of paper with a light gray shaded background with white lines. The design of the paper allows your thoughts and ideas to stand off the page without fighting with the lines for attention, improving the readability of your writing. The toned background of the paper works to reduce glare making the unique design of the paper easier on the eyes. And not only is Whitelines working harder to support you and your ideas, but it is working harder to support the environment; the paper is processed and printed in a mill in the South of Sweden with zero carbon emissions. Notebook includes Whitelines patented paper for the greatest writing experience.

This may sound corny, but I have been searching for years for the optimal notebook. I have tried many different versions and brands, including Rhodia, Cambridge, etc. None of them have come close to the perfection Whitelines has achieved.

My ideal notebook criteria include:
-hard bound cover (so the product will stand up to the rigors of my work and travel)
-spiral bound (so I can lay the notebook flat on a table)
-individual spirals (a. individual spirals are bigger and sturdier, so you can carry a pen inside the spirals, and b. you're able to flip the cover onto the back more easily than a linked spiral notebook)
-graph paper (so I can optimize the organization on my notes and draw graphs/pictures as necessary)
-strong perforations (so the pages don't tear out unintentionally - one of the things I didn't like about Rhodia notebooks was that the perforations were so weak, the page would rip out unintentionally during normal use)

The white lines graph paper is the bonus that puts this notebook over the top. The white lines give you the guidance you need without being obtrusive. This product is basically notebook utopia.

I like the A5 size because I don't typically fill up an entire page most days. Get the A4 size if your going to carry print outs or make a lot of notes.

I used an A5 wirebound for the first time last semester (an ECON class) and it was the perfect size. I picked this one up for an engineering class, but I found it to be too small. Not enough room to add extra notes around figures, etc. Nice quality paper though.

I'm not a fan of the white letter marketing on the front, but, at least it's not in your face.

The real annoyance was the cover material. It has a sort of soft, (dare I say plush), rubbery plastic coating on it. Being black, it shows every single scuff mark, which is unfortunate, because this isn't just a toss-away book. I would use something of this quality with intentions of keeping it. After only a day of use, scuff marks were beginning to appear.

Anyway, I would buy the RULED version again for basic classes, but not for Math, Engineering, or Science. Hard to critique something for simply not meeting my needs, but the annoyances drop it a star.

This has every quality that I look for in an everyday notebook or journal, plus some added bonuses that now I can't do without:

- hard cover (otherwise I smash it up or get it wet and ruined)
- spiral bound/lays flat (otherwise, being a right-handed person, I can barely write on the left pages. Not a problem with this one!)
- high quality spirals (only the top and bottom ones have moved a little, and that's because I keep a pen tucked in the spirals)
- lines that don't get in the way (traditional dark lines don't leave enough freedom for doodling/imaginative writing, so I used to look for unlined paper. The Whitelines squares are so much better. They give direction and guidance if needed, but otherwise they blend in underneath my writing. I had no idea I'd appreciate that so much)
- the A5 size is perfect for me (portable but spacious enough that I'm not flipping pages every 5 words)
- perforated edges (so I don't need to worry about digging out leftover shreds from the spirals after pulling out a page)
- *bonus: as mentioned above, the spirals are wide enough to hold a pen that has a clip. Not a requirement for me, but a huge plus.

My wife was skeptical at first, but after testing mine she bought her own. I've also bought it as a gift, to rave reviews. I'm looking forward to filling up my first one so I can buy another one :)

This was almost everything I've been looking for in a scientific and engineering notebook, and I was shocked to see it for such a reasonable price. Now that I have it, there are just two drawbacks. 1) It's only 100 pages, and I've been finding that 150 is more ideal as a "volume" for my library of old notebooks. Eh, I dunno, maybe 100 pages will grow on me. 2) The grid size of 0.5 cm is a bit small for me. I prefer 1/4", but this isn't a deal breaker. Overall, this is a very well designed and produced product.

I recently became obsessed with notepads and tried a bunch of brands, styles etc. This was the hands down winner. I like the spiral so I can lay it flat or use it in my hands while standing. The whitelines squares are a great idea and are very elegant and useful. Super bummed it's unavailable for a reasonable price on amazon but I'll keep checking around.

As an engineer, I tend to love graph paper whether I need it or not. I'm just glad I didn't discover these notebooks earlier. I've been earning a good living for a while now, so dropping a few bucks on a nice notebook doesn't bother me and I'm sure I'll buy more of these. If I had discovered these while I was in school, I'd probably have been tempted to buy them anyway and then I would have gone from eating Ramen to boiled shoes.

I'm an Architectural Designer. I've owned a slue of sketchbooks in the past. Usually I own two at a time. One with lines, and one without. I usually had two because I didn't want to sketch in a book with hard lines or a grid, and yet I needed a book with hard lines for keeping notes and jotting down simple sketches. What I like about this book is that it lets me do both! The "reverted line" design lets me sketch and not have the grid get in the way. I will most certainly be purchasing this item again!
